Sometimes, when I want to uncompress a 7z archive crypted by me, I am not able to remember the password I gave it.
Could you add that :
- ask some password tip when I compress. E.g. if my password is "2512" I'd set "birthday" in the tip field because I was born on 25.12
- show that field tip filled with "birthday" when I want to uncompress. So I find at once my password, and I am alone to know it because nobody knows my birthday.
TIA
I think it's possible to add a metadata field into 7z archives.
I plan to add the 7zip plugin code to code.google.com in order to have a bug/feature tracker, source code control etc.
I hope I can start digging into the source code at the beginning of next year.
Metadata : good idea. I didn't think of it ! Unfortunately works only on NTFS systems, no ? But I often use FAT32 USB devices.
Anyway, I see I can hope something for later.

Not NTFS streams metatada, 7zip archive format has support for additional streams (see 7z Format description)
I was thinking at adding such an additional stream for password hints.
I noticed a small bug: if in a compressed 7zip I have "filename.ext" and I try overwriting it with "FileName.ext" then both names appear in compressed file when you browse it. Internally the new file is stored. If I try to delete one of these names, the stored file itself gets deleted.
Sorry if it was mentioned before...

Thanks for pointing this out. 7-zip handles this as you would expect it. I'll fix it in the next version.
Number of streams.
1 Now in the dropping out list only two values (1 and 2) though the user can have a processor supporting and about more number of streams.
2 Number /4 opposite to this field as I have understood, - "properties" and does not correspond to real number of streams supported by the processor, in difference from similar number in the archiver interface.
Work with icons in sfx archives
3 In options the plug-in displayed icon, instead of an icon sfx the module which I is displayed has put in a plug-in folder. Thus I see one icon, and I receive sfx with other icon (from the module). In options the icon from the module if it is chosen in options should be displayed and is available in a plug-in folder.
4 At icon change in options it is remembered, but at repeated change of an icon for search it is offered to begin again search in %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll, instead of in last used file from which was the previous icon is taken. It complicates repeated search of the necessary file.
5 I Create sfx with the icon necessary to me, I change an icon and again I create same sfx. The plug-in suggests me to rewrite an old file sfx - I agree. New sfx has an icon from old sfx, instead of that which is chosen at the moment of creation new sfx. If created sfx does not exist in a folder of appointment and accordingly there is no its rewriting the icon always corresponds chosen in options.
It would be desirable to put all it in order.
Thanks.
Now that we have Total7zip which is does the job well, is the dev of this plugin still needed?
Is there something this addon does or will do that Total7zip doesn't?
I mean beside what you have already answered, the fact no external component is needed with this plugin.
From a user perspective who does not really care whether the code is in dll or pure wcx form, why should I use this plugin rather than Total7zip?

The same reason that Sony and Samsung both make TVs. For variety. I agree, you shouldn't use this one. I will use it, as I have been for a while now.
And you might want to check the 'tude at the door the next time.

I was also using this addin until last week but always had some issues (errors related to memory at least the 0.7.x before drac's improvements) and switched to Total7Zip last week which works great so far.
I may participate to the code google com project of drac which is a good one but it would be more motivating to know exactly the pros and cons of the wcx vs. the dll approach from a user perspective.
And in terms of speed or memory usage can we expect any difference between this plugin and Total7zip?

Good job. That sounds a little less confrontational.
Maybe a comparison would be good.
