You can compare the prices of other file managers

Directory Opus Pro Single
Single machine licence plus one personal laptop
$69 AUD

XYplorer Lifetime License Pro
US$ 59.95

XYplorer Standard License Pro
US$ 29.95

xplorer2 ultimate edition
49.95 USD

xplorer2 ultimate edition
free lifetime upgrades assurance
99.90 USD

xplorer2 professional
29.95 USD

xplorer2 professional
free lifetime upgrades assurance
59.90 USD

Total Commander (lifetime license)
USD 44.00

A very rough look at current file manager prices.

I didn't copy all the licensing details and terms. But to make the long story short, we're getting a great deal for our TC license.

I hope that doesn't change. I'm trying to give back something to the author by convincing a friend or two to buy a license. Well, its more like doing a favor for those who aren't on TC yet - they don't know what they're missing 8)

Just for the reason of completeness:
Double Commander for Windows x86/x64 and Linux, current Betaversion 0.5.4, supports the Total Commander WCX, WDX and WLX plug-ins.

It's freeware!

Please also consider that you are allowed to use TC with just one licence on all your computers at the same time, not just one.

First of this is old, very old, are you trying to live your life on money from TC?

Second think about it, how many people in this world got 32 euro for a software you can get free from warez sites?
Let's see...

I bought Total Commander back in 2003 and IIRC it was version 5. With that money I have on 2013 (10 years after) version 8.01 and according to current policy I will have all versions as long as I use this program.

For me it's 3.2 eur/year. or 8 eur/version

Yeah, it's a ripoff... for Ghisler.

tried it some months ago... imho not comparable...

So far I couldn't find any freeware that really compares to TC.
Not even when i think "well its freeware".

The only freeware commander i (seldomly) use is AltCmd, but just because its little filesize.

That guy must be on drugs. I find that post pretty retarded and even insultive. But then again he's probably that sort of cheapass who would never buy anything.

I think you are misinterpreting his message. He is saying Mr. Ghisler is the one who is taking a monetary beating.

I have to say I'm surprised at some of the reaction to the original post - he was taking the time to express a perfectly legitimate viewpoint.

The value of TC (or any other software) is surely going to depend on how much it is used (plus the user's finances - 32€ can be a lot for some). There are those here who clearly rely on it heavily and see it as great value (particularly compared to KC's list of other file manager prices above) and those who may use it very occasionally for some specific feature (like multiple file renaming or file comparison).

My view is that 32€ places TC out of the casual purchase category and that a small reduction would be beneficial. In particular, I would suggest that the CD-ROM be made a chargeable extra, so an alternate price structure (for single copy, individual user licence) might be 32€ including CD-ROM and, say, 25€ for a download only. CD-ROMs may be useful for some, but to include them by default seems a little unnecessary nowadays.

Now whether it is worth lowering TC's price to a "casual purchase" level is totally Mr. Ghisler's decision. It could work out positively (in higher sales) or negatively (with more casual buyers to whom RTFM is some kind of online radio station).

That shouldn't prevent people from discussing it here though - or excuse some of the intemperate feedback.

Considering the fact that I bought my license in 1998, i.e. 14 years ago, and updated legally for free ever since and used the product every single day of the year I tend to disagree.

Karl
TC is more than excellent value for the money.

I meant the original post of course!
But seeing it's year old... nevermind :P
