Useful for others

:) Ah ! Indeed, I use always the Win9x look with XP…

• Anyway, your report is useful for those who are using that theme,
and for the Author who has another headache in sight to solve this (if possible) !

I know - that's what led me in the right direction ;-)

Indeed lister.exe doesn't yet contain the "manifest" resource to use the XP theme - I will add that.

About the wincmd.ini, I don't really know where I should put it, it's the same dilemma as with Total Commander itself. The program directory is often not writable either, the user-specific directory is different per account, and the Windows directory is only writable for admins. :(

I don't know, maybe it's worth having TC settings in registry (as option)?
P.S. don't beat me, if that was already discussed.

I tried with an external lister.exe.manifest - it changed the buttons and checkboxes/radiobuttons - but the captions were still missing - so maybe there is more to it?

maybe it's worth having TC settings in registry
I would stop using TC if that became true and wasn't optional.

Let's not forget to point out that the registry is way faster than parsing a text file (wincmd.ini) so it would mean a real advantage for home installations of TC.
optional
Yeah of course this would not fit those usb installations of TC.

...

Hmm, here we are talking non-sense again as I don't think any of us will live thru the next century...

i ment TC could look in it's dir, in %windir%, in %userprofile%/documents and in registry, and for USB it's possible to show dialog when TC is started for the first time (not installed but started) where to put settings. And also it's nice to have special option in TC options to choose where to save settings, for users, that for some reasons want to change the place to hold ini.

I think that using a file, for example "user_profiles_enabled" in Total Commanders directory, would be the best way of telling where to store settings.
If directory has this file - use "Documents and settings" folder
If there is no such file use programs directory. So no need for registry, easy portable.

I see here: http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=133407&sid=b183ccfb7acdea539175d4ed3c7c43b4#133407 that a new version of lister has been released (files dated july 4th 2007).

Not easy to test and give feedback when new releases are not announced ;-)

Anyway - at first sight the captions in the dialog boxes are still missing under a themed Win XP. Only the buttons and checkboxes/radiobuttons are fixed.

I have just looked at the standalone lister.

Downloaded from:

http://www.ghisler.com/lister/
https://plugins.ghisler.com/addons/lister32.zip

The web page describes it as:
32-bit version for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP: Same program as in version 6.5 of Total Commander.
The changelog in the readme shows:
04.07.07 Added MANIFEST resource for Windows XP and Vista
12.06.07 Re-built based on Total Commander 7 final
I would like to thank Christian Ghisler and remind him to update the page.

Probably no need to. Lister can be started with commandline from TC.

Just start TC with: "/S=L"
