TC 8.51a Encrypted ZIPs Don't Work

Post by *mbluett »

I see this has been an issue in the past. It seems to be an issue now as well.

I have TC 8.51a installed (I just did an upgrade). It asks for a password (I am using AES256), but once created anyone can open it. I am using TC 64-bit.

25dda95c5f6fad4e050e37c1539d49d6bcbd7e17 *WCMZIP32.DLL

Anyway to fix this?

TC remembers the password until you close or minimize it, or until the PC goes to sleep or shows the screensaver.

I guess it would if I checked the box to tell it to do that, but I don't.

Also, if I copy the zipped (and supposed encrypted) file across to another computer, it opens without a password.

Not confirmed !
Tested with TC 8.51a x86 and x64.
It works in all aspects as designed.
The file names can be seen of course without the password
but to access a files content it asks for the password.

With "open" you mean view file names inside the archive? Or do you mean unpack files from the archive?

I see now. It is as you say that it asks for a password only when trying to open the actual files. This is not the way I remember it working, but then the only time I used it sometime ago was on a specific file and not a folder.

My apologies for having you do any extra work on my account and have a great day!!!

Just a question: I can pack/unpack crypted zip files with TC without update the WCMZIP32.DLL. I check and my dll is 123.536 bytes and is the same present in tcm851ax32.exe So the old dll 32.768 bytes long is no more needed?

How can you have 2 DLL versions with the same name in TC dir ?
The update just replaces the old versions with the correct actual one.
So there is no question :D

Sorry! I don't update any dll and the dll that I have/use is the same one that is in the installation file of 8.51a. With this dll I can pack/unpack crypted zip files. So my question is: is it right that with newer version of TC there is no need to change the zip dll to pack/unpack crypted zip files?

Since years you don't need to change the zip DLL.

Indeed the crypto export laws have changed, so we are now allowed to include it in the installer. No need to replace the dll any more.

07.05.08 Release Total Commander 7.04 beta 1
.
.
.
01.05.08 Added: Thanks to changed Swiss crypto export laws, the ZIP packer dll supporting ZIP encryption is now included. U.S. review is not required, see Sec. 740.17: (ii) Exemptions from the review requirement. Foreign products (with) U.S.-origin encryption .. provided that the U.S.-origin encryption has not been changed. TC uses standard ZIP encryption.
So it was 6 years ago... ;-)
