This is an official WARNING: Trading of any WAREZ is strictly prohibited in this forum. I don't think that Symantec would agree that you distribute their software here, even if they stopped selling it. If you repeat this, you will be banned permanently from this forum.

Don't be afraid! All versions of Windows/Total Commander (unlike Norton Commander) are shareware, so that is totally OK! NP!

I don't get this! Is Norton Commander 5, which for all I remember is the Windows version, free from any registration processes (that is on the actual software itself)?

Buying it from Symantec means that you only get the ability to just download it?

If that's the case I can understand the above but if not what's the problem in having a download link here since the programme will need some kind of activation?

AFAIK it's the last DOS version of NC. It wasn't shareware.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

All this talk of Norton Commander, while nostalgic, isn't very productive. No version of Norton Commander works well, if at all, with modern OSes and even with antiquated OSes like DOS, Win 3.1, and Win95 there were/are much more powerful options.

If anyone's interested, they should check out the new version of SpeedCommander. The author has really optimized the speed of the program.

I still prefer Total Commander, but options and competition is always a good thing.

Oh, and a huge thanks again to Christian for allowing us to even have this discussion about competitors to his product on his very forum. That he'd allow such a thing that could possibly cost him sales and threaten his livelihood speaks volumes about both his confidence in his product and of his character as a person.

Well said!

The only thing that can threaten TC is better software engineering and patents laws. ;)

PowerDesk Pro v5's successor

Post by *Innuendo »

In case anybody is interested & loves PowerDesk Pro v5, check out http://www.novatix.com. It's the company started by the original programmers who worked for Mijenix who originally wrote PowerDesk.

The new program is called ExplorerPlus. It's up to v6.1 and it has everything v5 did, plus new features & bug fixes.
