 sounds like a dogfight to me... take it into PM, will ya; or suggest to Ghisler that he add the Ignore function to the boards. Stick to the topic or stuff a sock in it, thank you. You're both experienced forum users and should know better.

I agree that we should be able to change names when registered.

To the comments about the personal licenses - well I'm sorry, but it's not that my name is in it that prevents me from sharing it with others, it's the fact that the licence is mine. And my name is also shown during startup - that should be enough, shouldn't it? I'd think it pretty lovely if I could instead have more TC's with different names. Then I'd probably run 1 with "stuff" and 1 with "phpbb" with tons of predefined tabs; I only use one now because it's darn hard to remember which one is for what when they're just named "TotalCommander 6.03a - Finn S. Sørensen" and "[2] TotalCommander 6.03a - Finn S. Sørensen". So IMHO it would be a very functional improvement indeed. Keep the name there for all I care, but make at least the first 12 chars user definable so I can keep better check on my windows.

What about removing the name in the titlebar and playing a sound instead (in an endless loop)?

Didn't you said "Good bye, Lenin" yet? %) You are not my brother, my fellow Terran, whatever you was taught.

Yep, no "free lessons of any kind any more".

This is not an answer. One more time:

So, do we have it? Yes or no.[/face]

:) Hello !

• Imagine users having a very ridiculous name or / and location:
« Ding-Dong ! This program is registered to John Bum, Farter Cat Alley, 8
Flavour-Village, 666-666 SomeCountry... »
:P
* Indeed, they can reduce the sound-volume to "zero"...
* In fact, even worse true names exist : in my region there is a family so-named something like "CockInMouth" ( sorry, but it's the meaning of that French name!)

• Another idea : display the photo of the user as a thumbnail in the title-bar - if he/she isn't too ugly, of course ! :D

  Kind regards,
Claude

Here is how to remove the registered username from the titlebar:
  • Change to classic theme if you are using xp styles in windows xp.
  • Change all system titlebar colors to the same color - for active and for inactive titlebars.

Could also just turn off screen. Useful.

Yeah, or what about putting a very big hat up, closing your eyes or turning 180 degrees?

What a lousy end of a serious topic.

Sum:
Use a crack to hide your personal data or buy an alternative like Speed Commander which takes care of your data and doesn't expose it to public like some shitty spyware.

Boooooooooooo - don't take everything too serious. Hey it's not the end!
My favourite solution is still the endless sound loop!
Use a crack to hide your personal data or buy an alternative like Speed Commander which takes care of your data and doesn't expose it to public like some shitty spyware if you don't want to.
Cracks are illegal - as mentioned before - quick changing your theme in windows can be useful in some situations until a more comfortable solution has been implemented. Another practical solution could be a programm which changes the title bar to the desired value. I'm using a similar program for screenshot preparing (2 lines of code).

:x I'm with icfu on this. This detail and a proper editor and I'm as close to the perfect tool as I can get - which is why I PAID for this application, afterall. Which is why I spend hours finetuning it, test plugins, even translates some stuff. And there's allways a few types on the board who makes me wonder if it's worth it...

Not agreeing or liking a suggestion doesn't automativally mean you have to make fun of it or spam the topic with useless suggestions. And the 'nah nah it's illegal' stuff we've already heard, didn't we? Still also the only real solution, as I recall, eh? Please, be at least constructive or begone. What is WRONG with everyone in here today? Flame wars? C'mon, I can't waste my time on this... I guess I'll have to go find the hack.

This could have been an easy way out, to code a simple loader that sets the titlebar at startup (not version dependent and unquestionable "legal"). However, TC occasionally resets the titlebar and that would mean that the loader must become a permanent application that monitors the titlebar and resets it when it's changed. Suddenly the solution becomes both lame and system hogging. As are the other proposed "solutions" like for instance manipulating colors or moving the titlebar "off screen".
