(Solved) TortoiseSVN overlay icons not shown on unc path

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

(Solved) TortoiseSVN overlay icons not shown on unc path

Post by *SanskritFritz »

TC shows the TortoiseSVN overlay icons only on the local drives, and not on the UNC network path (\\server\share\SVNWorkingFolder). Explorer shows the icons correctly.
Can anyone confirm this?

This must be a bug in Tortoise - Total Commander is requesting the overlay icons also on shares. It does work for the little arrow of lnk files.

Edit: It's a configuration option in Tortoise. Right click on a folder with SVN icon and choose TortoiseSVN - Configure. Then go to the "Icon overlays" page. Here only "Fixed drives" was checked. When I checked "Network drives", the overlays were shown here also on shares.

I had that checked, and as I mentioned in my report, Explorer shows the icons correctly. Could it be that the share is a hidden share?

PS: I just checked with a normal share (\\w7tsapp\Documents\FlyerMass\), same problem :-(

I have only tested with the shares on my own PC - I don't have Tortoise installed on any other computer here. Anyway, I have no influence on that, TC does request the icons. Maybe you can check the source of Tortoise...

I confirm that TC display icons for TortoiseSVN on network shares with checked option mentioned above.

TC do some caching work so after turning this option on TC must be rerun.

I found the cause of the problem:
I had
Options / Icons / EXE/LNK not on net
activated. This causes TC to not show overlay icons on the network. Which is correct I think...

Ah, thanks for the clarification! Yes, indeed this turns off also overlay icons, because they tend to be slow on network drives just like per file icons...
