TC7.01 - Show custom fields below thumbnails, just text

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC7.01 - Show custom fields below thumbnails, just text

Post by *white »

When you use the option "Show custom fields below thumbnails" (see Configuration - Thumbnails) to display just text without any values of plugin fields, the text is not displayed. As I understand this is intentional. However an empty line is being displayed. That does not seem to be intentional.

Also when multiple lines are used (i.e. "line 1\nline 2\nline 3\nline 4") additional empty lines are shown.

Hm... Seems to be not fixed in 7.02. Static text is not shown here.

Sorry, I don't understand your remarks. It works perfectly here! Maybe you didn't try the right thing?

Try this:
1. In configuration - options - thumbnails, click on "fields by type".
2. Click on "Add"
3. Type some file type for testing, e.g. *.txt, and press ENTER
4. As custom fields, write something like this:
line 1\nline 2\nline 3\nline 4
5. Close all dialogs with OK
6. Switch to thumbnail view

-> Under each txt file, the above-defined 4 lines are shown!
What exactly doesn't work for you?

Almost the same, except for I specified not text for file type, but general (the textbox just below the option "Show custom fields below thumbnails").

The same here- that's what doesn't work for just text.

The same here- that is what is causing empty lines to be displayed (which is the subject of this topic).

Indeed plain text isn't currently supported in this field. It doesn't really make much sense to always show the same text here, that's why I didn't implement it so far. If you can give me a valid reason to put just plain text there, I will add it.

At least one reason is "uniformity". It looks very strange when TC shows WDX fields, show WDX+text but refuses to show just text.

Another reason is debugging: when someone finds a problem creating custom fields (something does not work) and he wants to find out quickly who is guilty - TC or plugin, he removes all the plugin fields so that only text remains. And TC does not show this text. So, who is guilty in the user's opinion? :)
