How to edit TC's local context menu's?
Hi everyone,
Is it possible to edit the local context (i.e. right click) menu's in TC? I've removed some entries from the Right Click-New context menu using the Microsoft TweakUI utility, and they have been removed from the context menu when I use Windows Explorer, but none of them have been removed from the context menu when I use TC. Going through TC's helpfile, I discovered that TC does not use the Explorer context menu's, it has its own (which explains why TweakUI has no effect on TC) - but the helpfile gave no way to edit these local menu's.
Regards,
CM

Hi,
I hate to disagree, but TC doesn't use the same context menus as Explorer. It states in the TC helpfile that TC uses local context menus, and the entries that were removed from the Explorer "Right Click-New" context menu have not been removed from TC's "Right Click-New" menu, which is why I wanted to know how to edit them. I did email Christian a while back to ask him, but I never received a reply, so I thought someone on these boards may know.

Hi, romulous.
If I remember right, TC will generate the items inside the (long) right-click menu (Shift+F10) dynamically, whenever the context menu needs to be displayed, by querying the registry locations where Windows stores the required information.
Therefore there is no recommended way of editing the TC (long) right-click menu, because whatever you change inside the registry will affect all other Windows programmes as well.

Karl

The "New" submenu is created by TC itself, because Windows seems to "forget" these entries when asked to create the context menu...

Hi everyone,
karlchen: Ah, so there is no easy way to edit the TC context menu's then? My current TC context menu for 'New' is:
AutoIt v3 Script
Microsoft Word Document
Shortcut
Microsoft Office Access Application
Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation
SAM File
Text Document
WinHTTrack Project
WK4 File
Microsoft Excel Worksheet
Using TweakUI, I have disabled all but:
AutoIt v3 Script
Text Document
for the Windows Explorer New menu (and I only want these two entries in TC), but from what you are saying, it sounds like I would have to find where TC is getting each of these from the Registry, and then edit one or more of the keys to remove them from the TC context menu?
Christian:
Probably in this case, it would be good if Windows forgot these entries, because that's exactly what I want TC to do! Any chance of either changing TC so that it uses the Explorer context menu's, or providing a built-in editor in TC to help us edit these entries? TC doesn't seem to have any problems in generating its own menu's, so it doesn't seem like it would be a hard thing programatically to provide an edit function.

Hi Lefteous,
TC doesn't have the same context menu as Explorer - that's the point. I want to clear out the 'Right Click-New' menu, and I thought TweakUI could do it - and it can, as long as you use Explorer or a file manager that uses Explorer context menu. It wasn't until I tried TweakUI that I realised that TC unfortunately doesn't use Explorer context menu (I don't really understand why, but Christian obviously has his reasons), and there is seemingly no easy way to edit these local TC context menu.

I forward support to this request from the Slovak/Czech support forum, specifically requested was a possibility to remove the View (Lister) menu entry.
