Total Commander and the LocalSystem account

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Total Commander and the LocalSystem account

Post by *nothingtolose »

Hello everyone,
Hello Christian,

Everytime Total Commander is launched under the LocalSystem account, it automatically exits after a few minutes without saying anything.

Is this because Total Commander encounters some exception and it has to quit (found no log file, or any log entry in the Event Log though)?

Thanks,
Regards.

Does the LocalSystem account have read access (not only execute) to totalcmd.exe?

Yes, it has full permissions on the drive where totalcmd.exe is located.

Actually the Total Commander window is shown successfully, but just wait for a few minutes, the application exits silently.

If I choose to perform a time-consuming operation (like copying a big folder), the application still exits after a few minutes. So the operation is not finished.

It occurs on both Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 SP2.

Well, TC tests its EXE for modification from time to time, so I thought that this would be the reason why it exits - but that doesn't seem to be the case if TC has full access to its file. I have no idea why it would exit then.

I run TC in Local System quite often and TC never shuts down on its own. I'm running under FAT32 where there are no permissions to get in the way and I always install INI files to the TC program folder. The Local System user profile is different than the administrator user profile which might confuse TC.

So the user who reported the bug could try starting TC from a FAT32 drive, e.g. an USB stick, to check whether it's a permissions problem...
