tooltip on tabs

Post by *vizi »

When using many tabs (which I often do), it is sometimes hard to recognize which tabs I need and TC does not make it easier because only way to see the path is to click on the tab.

Using multiple tabs would be much easier if new feture was inserted - tooltip on tabs. This tooltip would activate when passing mouse over tabs and would show full path of directory in tab under the mouse cursor.

This is already implemented in all major file managers and is making usage of file manager much more convenient. I hope to see it implemented in TC also since it is probably not difficult to do so.

Bes regards, asnd good work!

TC already shows path in tooltip when you hover the tab!

Just go to Configuration -> Display -> Help texts and check Show filename in tooltips if truncated.

I am glad I helped.

Just small note: you can also customize files tooltips from mentioned options page. You can even use WDX plugins for them and set various content per filetype.

Is it possible to disable folder tabs tooltips (hints) while switching them by Ctrl-Tab (Ctrl-Shift-Tab)?
It seems that "Show filename in file list as tooltip if truncated" option doesn't disable them, only mouse hover tips.

The only way would be to disable the delayed tab switching: The tips are shown when you can press Ctrl-Tab repeatedly without releasing Ctrl, and the tab switch only occurs when you release Ctrl.
When you put
TabSwitchMode=1
in wincmd.ini under [Configuration], TC will not show tips, but will switch immediately to the next/previous tab. This may be unwanted if the tab contains for example an inaccessible network folder.

Got it, thank you!
It would be nice to have an option to disable folder tabs tooltips but without changing the mentioned behavior (actually I like tab switching the way it acts now that is tab is switched on Ctrl release).
