Hi,

would it be possible to implement an option in the settings for switching the standard drag&drop-behavior between copy and move?

So when I set this option, plain drag&drop would move the files, while holding down alt or shift or right mouse key would copy them.

(Only for drag&drop between TC-Panes of course! Drag&drop from TC to an other application should not remove the files from its source.)

I wholeheartedly agree with the creation of such a setting.

Probably the only think I don't like about TC is the fact that drag and drop doesn't act like it does in Windows Explorer or other file manager programs I've used. I realize it can be chosen with right-click, but it adds two additional clicks. One to choose the mode and one to confirm the dialog.

I think that generally if the source and target drive are the same the default behavior would be move. If different, copy. I'd also like to see an option to omit the confirmation dialog.

With those additions, I'd buy a few more copies for my office. I've hesitated to do so thus far due to the confusion and file proliferation it might cause.

In dumb Explorer D&D works in absolutely stupid way. It checks if drive letters are the same for source and target and moves if it is so. If you're trying to D&D to junction or folder symlink with target in another drive, it will move too, but it should copy.

D&D in TC works always in same way, you may come to your friend or to any other place and D&D in TC won't harm anything just because you have one setting and your friend has other one.

If you want to move a file from one TC panel to other, just hold right mouse button while dragging instead of Alt or Shift.

I don't disagree that the TC method is safer and perhaps even better for some. I certainly wouldn't advocate changing the default actions in TC.

My thought is that having and optional setting that mimics what most folks are used to would be nice.

I almost never copy anything from one folder to another on the same drive, but often do so from drive to drive.

Right clicking, choosing move instead of copy and having to confirm the action just seems like a bit of a waste of time.

Get confirmation before: [_] Drag&Drop (copying files with mouse)

BTW. Don't known if you are using left or right Mouse button mode (Windows standard/NC mode) with right button move and context menu on release:

Right clicking, choosing move instead of copy

Left down, move, right down, left up, right up

Needs some adaptions of your motion sequence, but this one is faster than the context menu and select drop operation in windows standard mode.

TC is not made for Explorer-People as TC derivates from such famous tools like NC and im used to THAT behaviour wich is like it is in TC now

Thanks for the tip about disabling the confirmation dialog. I thought I had searched for it.

I'm truely not advocating changing the way you or many others normally use it. Simply suggesting adding configuration choice for flexibility.

Basically, a copy or move requires the LButton be held down until you have placed the pointer onto the folder, panel, or tab that you plan to copy to --- then you release the LButton.

Instead, Just press the RButton before you release the LButton. The same as you would press shift before releasing the LButton.

Or get a better mouse MX518 is ~$30 these days, though my next one will likely be the Logitech G700.

I wouldn't be able to go back to a standard 3 button mouse again at this point. With AHK and the MX518, the 8 buttons + Scroll can do 28 actions before even considering sequence of the button presses (one of the 8 is ALT, and the two thumb buttons are Ctrl, Shift).
