Do you want user rankings?

The old board on www.eforum.de had user rankings depending on the number of posts. Users with less than 100 posts had "Junior member", users with 100-199 posts had "member", and over 200 posts had "Senior member". It's also possible to use symbols, e.g. stars - a more experienced user can have more stars.

As an old star-sheriff. I vote for the stars.
Who would have so much time and power to write about 200 useless posts :D Yes those who have a good conection and a lot of time can override the forum with useless messages and so become some kind of senior members... But an real guru can be easily identified by the knowledge and the art of help she/he gives to other users... Simply the messsages by these people are sensemaking and very helpfull (not like this one :D )

So the stars are IMHO the first clue to find good help.

i think post number is better than stars. easier to understand, and slightly better for server load/bandwidth.

I vote for post numbers mainly because of its accuracy, i.e. you see exactly the number of replies and threads started. While on the other hand, stars are not that accurate. I mean we can have our dearest Christian with five starts and something like 640 posts and some “random” guy with 210 post having five stars as well! You see the difference now? ;)

The number of posts will still be shown even when using ranks and/or stars! These would be in addition to the number of posts, not as a replacement!

Beta 8 is currently going to the beta testers. Unfortunately the crash of the forum has cost me a lot of time+work, that's why I'm a bit behind schedule. I plan to release the final version later this month.

Thanks to all who participated in this poll! Since noone objected to user rankings yet, I'm now making a test with them. The ranks are as follows:
  • 1 post: New member (0 disks)
  • 2-99 Posts: Junior member (1 disk)
  • 100-199 Posts: Member (2 disks)
  • 200-499 Posts: Senior member (3 disks)
  • 500 or more Posts: Power member (4 disks)
  • Admin: Administrator (4 disks)
The images are "home-grown" from the TC icon. I'm not a good designer, so if you can do better, let me know. :D

4 Glowing Disks with a crown on the top and one Gold CD :D :D :D

Now really... I think 5 "normal" disks are sufficient enough

BTW What for is the ranking system when the Top Ten Posters doesn't work or did I miss something???

It does work, just sort by total number of posts, and descending!
