Why can't an external pack/unpack be sent to background?

This is pretty frustrating when you work with large files. It'd be a welcome addition to TC for me at any rate :)

Like RAR or like WCX? RAR can be sent by pressing background or pressing Escape, WCX cannot because some plugins might not be threadsafe.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Yeah, I saw that too.. That'd be easily solved in GetCapabilities or whatever the function name is.. Let the packer plugin return whether it's safe or not, put the button there for those who are, not for the others :)

Sounds like a goos compromize, I will consider it for a later version.
