I'd like to be able to copy the old filename directly from within the tool in order to paste it in the proper box and change it in a regular expression or whatever.

I happen to have to deal often with many files to rename and the tool is very handy, especially the reload button which allows multi-step rename sessions. Sometimes tough the parts to change are quite long and if I could pick them from the files instead of typing them it'd be much better.

You can edit file names with your desired text editor then return them to multi rename tool, press the button with the context menu icon (beside Upper/lowercase dropdown list) and choose Edit names..., TC uses windows notepad by default, if you want to use another editor choose Configure editor...

After finish editing the file names, save changes you made and return to TC and press OK in the waiting message.

Yes, I know that method and currently use it, but sometimes it is preferable and quicker to rename files in a multi step interactive way. In that case don't you think it's a little clumsy, during a interactive rename session, if I want to pick for change let's say "somelongstringwithinsomefilename" having to either :
1) Digit the whole string
2) Exit the session, go to file, highlight the name, copy it, reselect the files, start multi rename, paste the string in search for .......
3) Run the editor, search for the file(s), copy the string, close the editor, paste the string in search for .......

I think it wouldn't harm anybody if the string could be picked directly from the Old name/Old ext fields.

I suggest Ctrl+C for copying old name column and Ctrl+Shift+C for copying new name column (it could be useful too)
