Folder Compare icons missing?

Post by *KevinTBO »

Hello,

When using Commands, Synchronize Dirs to compare the contents of 2 folders (one on the right and one on the left), I believe the icons displayed for unequal files and files that are unique on the right do not appear correctly. Files that are unique on the right have a red X, and unequal files have an empty box.

I have compared several folders, on 2 different computers with the same results. I am using TC version 7.56a, and it was installed with local admin priveleges on each computer. Both computers are running Windows 7 32 bit. Am I missing something?

Here are some screen shots taken from 2 different computers, on different folder pairs:

Perhaps I missed an option during the install? Any help is much appreciated :)

Thank you ,

Kevin

The assymetric switch means you want to replicate the left folder.

So:
- files on the left are copied
- files on the right are deleted
- different files on both sides where the left is newer (by date) are copied
- different files on both sides where the right is newer (by date) are unknown (tc doesn't know how to handle them - you need to do this manually)

Thank you Samuel. Is there a link with a detailed description of how to use the Synchronize Dirs function?

Here is what I need to do:

I have copied a large amount of data from a share in the right pane (X drive) to a share in the left pane (W drive). The data in the left pane will remain static for now, while some data in the right pane will continue to be accessed and modified by users over the next week.

In approximately 1 week, I need to synchronize the data in the left pane (W drive) with the data in the right pane (X drive). That is:

-All files that have been modified in the right pane (X drive) since the initial copy, and new files must be copied over to the left pane.
-All files on the left side that have been deleted from the right side since the initial copy must be removed from the left side.

Essentially I need to make the left pane (W drive) match the right pane (X drive) in about a week.

Can I accomplish this using the Synchronize Dirs feature?

Thank you

Looks like you need the asymmetric option. Just switch the right path to the left one.

The TC help is pretty good. (press F1 when you are in the sync dialog (or anywhere in TC.))

You were absolutely correct Samuel. Switching the left and right panes was the missing step :) The key for me to understand with the Asymmetric option is that the left pane is the "Master", and it will be duplicated to the right pane. I really appreciate you help on this. The built in help clarified the synchronize feature very well, gotta love that F1 key. This is the part of the built in help that clarified the process for me:

"In asymmetric mode, directories missing on the left side will be deleted on the right side, and directories missing on the right will be copied from the left side.

Asymmetric: If this option is checked, it is assumed that a copy of the left side should be created on the right side. Files which do not exist on the left side will be marked for deletion on the right side."

Thanks again,

Kevin
