Copying under Windows Commander

Post by *dchenus »

I'm using Version 7.55a and I was interested if anyone has found a way around a problem I am having.

In copying files that exceed the total file path limit of 260 characters, Windows Commander will copy them but only after I acknowledge the error. Is there a way for me to copy with a default answer of "yes, keep for all" so that I can walk away from a long copy operation?

One other question is if I can copy a corrupted file that might be on a bad block and have Windows Commander's copy operation just keep going on the file block by block. Example is a DVD VOB file that might have a small gouge where I want to copy the file errors and all.

Yes there is a way.
Just add a line to your wincmd.ini
Help - 4.b wrote:LongNameCopy=0 During file operations, warn if target name is longer than 259 characters:
0=always
1=never
2=if source name isn't longer than 259 characters
3=disallow long names
Caution: Be aware that programs other than Total Commander may not be able to open such files, as the name length exceeds the limit !
So the warning is not just for fun, but a hint to correct it.
