Timestamps and sorting order

See http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=32814 for background.

Per discovery from Mr. White, TC since 10-Aug-2007, TC now uses NTFS for timestamps. However, it seems that all sections of TC are not able to use the same precision (or not updated to use it yet?). Using TC Files>Change Attributes>Change date\time > Load from file under cursor, two files look like they have the same time, minutes and seconds, but the fractional sections are not matched. Therefore sort order is affected.

Would like this addressed so I don't lose any more hair!

Thanks!

"Load from file under cursor" just loads the value into the edit box. Since it's not possible to display the 100 nanosecond-accurate NTFS time stamp to the user, it's also not possible to copy it this way.

If you want the same timestamp for all the files, you also need to set it on the file from which you load it.

Thanks for the reply. I can work with that, ie, your suggestion. Never thought of using it that way.

Still, the internal NTFS times are used during sorting but you cannot see nor use the fractional part of the seconds. So I suggest to add a field formatter "f" (for the fractional part of the seconds) to the internal plugin "tc" date and time fields. This would also be a nice plus over Explorer.

Also, let's bring up the old suggestion about only sorting on visible values.
