Are there any problems on Windows 11?

Btw, I also had to buy a new PC just for Windows 11 tests. Before that I used a workaround to install it in Virtual box, but I could not test everything this way. But it may be a good solution for petermad.

Wouldn't I need a Windows 11 installation disk or something like that, since I cannot update my Windows 10 - or how?

If you have a test computer you can try to upgrade to W11 following this tutorial !
You can get a w11 iso here.
It should also work to install on virtual machine.
I did it on my old Dell M4800 precision and work just fine. It is not my main laptop, I will just use it until i get a light test computer in next months..

Thanks, I will look into it...

Can you recommend an easy-to-use virtual machine/box for Windows 7?

My own preference is for VirtualBox as it is easy to install/manage and have a huge community. For windows some of my colleague use Hyper-V from MS as it is completely integrated in the OS, can be enabled on any Pro/Enterprise version of Windows and MS used to publish pre-built virtual machines for testing.

You can download from MS Development W11 virtual machines : https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/downloads/virtual-machines/ unfortunately i do not know if you can get old versions.

If you do not need 64bit, you can give a look here https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/ for windows 7 32bit with IE

I'm using VirtualBox too, but it runs badly when enabling Hyper-V, so make sure you disable it.

If you want to run Hyper-V and another Vitual Machine flavor, the best is to use VMWARE workstation player ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyper-V

In short, Hyper-V is a Windows feature, a so-called hypervisor. It's like its own little operating system which then runs not only the main Windows as a guest, but also user-created virtual machines. Since Windows itself is running as a guest, you can't use traditional virtual machines like VirtualBox inside of it, it would be a virtual machine within a virtual machine. Instead, VirtualBox has to call Hyper-V functions to load its guest operating systems. Unfortunately Hyper-V is very poorly documented, so VirtualBox struggles badly when run under Hyper-V.

You can turn off Hyper-V via control.exe, programs and features, windows features.

@Petermad; Thanks, I sniped out just the '@Folders' menu item and I imagine it will be handy in the near future.

Extended Menus for TC 10.50 - Updated July 7th 2022

Post by *petermad »

Updated version 10.50 is now available for download (links in first post):

New:
  • Added several menu items to take advantage of new functions in TC - for example under:
    Files -> Saved
    Files -> Pack
    Commands -> Unload Plugins from Memory
    Preferences -> Display
  • Changed the way the Go to Newest/Oldest/Smallest/Largest file work - these items are NOT backwards compatible.
  • Updated English and German Dark Help in the addons package which can be installed via "Help" -> "Install Addons for Total Commander".
  • Updated Old Style Help (totalcmd.hlp) in the addons package.
_________________

Nyt:
  • Tilføjet adskillige menupunkter som benytter nye funktioner i TC - for eksempel under:
    Filer -> Gemte
    Filer -> Pakning
    Kommandoer -> Fjern plugins fra hukommelsen
    Opsætning -> Visning
  • Opdateret engelsk og tysk Mørk Hjælp i udvidelsespakken, som kan installeres via "Hjælp" -> "Installer udvidelser til Total Commander".
  • Opdateret Old Style Hjælp (totalcmd.hlp) i udvidelsespakken.

Thanks Peter.
But, I think your post was supposed to say "Updated version 10.50 is now available"?
