Post by *Kakadu »

USE URLS IN A NEW THREAD???

IT IS F*C*ING-B*LL*H*T TO WRITE A LONG TEXT FOR EXPLAING A PROBLEM AND WITHOUT WARNING ALL YOUR TEXT IS LOST WITHOUT WARNING!!!!

THE PROBLEM IS THAT AS SOON AS YOU GET THE WARNING THERE IS NO EXIT TO GET BACK YOUR TEXT - YOU CAN CLICK "BACK" - AN GET AN EXPIRED PAGE, AND AGAIN BACK YOUR TEXT IS LOST!!!

THAT BEHAVIOUR IS NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

Something more: it seems even not to be allowed to write the three letters _u_r_l_ (I HAVE TO WRITE THAT IN ANY STUPID WAY - OTHERWISE I GET AGAIN THE WARNING) in any form - even whithout being used for an external link!!! And that's a real shame!

Don't tell us that you lost pages of importand text.
Also stop writing in all uppercase, your text looks not better nor is it in any way more importand.

Kakadu,
Indeed, there is a timeout for a user session. Therefore it's best to either use a browser that saves the contents of the text area like Firefox or compose the post in some text editor and then just paste it into the browser.

I usually do what Hacker suggested, I write it first on my favorite text editor.

I dont personally use this tool but it might help:

www.listary.com/text-editor-anywhere

From the the maker of Listary, a great free tool that works beautifully with TC.

IT HAS AGAIN BEEN DELETED WITHOUT WARNING!

Post by *Kakadu »

Sorry for screaming - but that was the reaction on the way I was greeted her, and that I had to write a text at least three times because it was DELETED WITHOUT WARNING. It is somewhat really crazy and I can consider that behaviour (NOT to not allow u_r_l_s (I still don't have the allowance to write these three letters in an unstupid way - even if not using it for an external link - and THAT'S CRAZY), but to delete the written text without warning and not allowing going back to edit the text) to be very hostile. It's the most crazy thing I ever found in any forum ... That means: your not welcome here as we (the forum) imputate you to be a spammer - and spammers can be treated as scum here. And that's neither kind nor acceptable for a forum of such a reputable software as TC is! That was the reason for screaming here! And it is something that not only has to be mandatorily improved, but also the "big boss" here should be aware of that hostile behaviour of his forum-software!

But please keep in mind: the fact not to allow external links during the first day after registration is a VERY GOOD IDEA and a VERY EFFECTIVE SPAM-PROTECTION!!! Absolutely nothing against that! But why isn't such a kind of WARNING written IN BIG THICK LETTERS in the registration screen???

@Sir_SiLvA: no - in NO forum (worldwide) that you want to post a problem, you are gonna be forced first to search the whole forum for a problem that you even don't have any idea a) that it is existing and b) how it is working! Keep in mind: you first write something and use the three letters u, r and l (without anything in between): then your text is deleted without warning and your are told something that even might not be true! You are imputed to be a SPAMmer - even if it is not true! And as a greeting in an "new" forum, you really cannot ask the user to search for problemes that he even does not have an idea that that could be a problem is really crazy!

And in a "normal forum" (I leave open what you consider to be a "normal forum") you cannot ask the user to first edit his text in an external browser. THAT'S NOT NORMAL FORUM BEHAVIOUR!!

As said: that kind of SPAM-protection is not only a good idea, but also very effective - but it is incomplete! Please WARN (with thick letters on the welcome screen ore BEFORE editing - i.e. as soon as you create your first new thread) from it - and (very important) ALLOW TO GO BACK TO EDITING (just put a "continue editing"-button onto that warning-page (then the problem is solved and screaming would not have been necessary)!!!

And additionally, change the "_u_r_l_"-filter to "_[_u_r_l_]_" (including the sqare brackets) as how it is now, it is even not possible to discuss that in a normal way!

THAT'S NOT NORMAL FORUM BEHAVIOUR!!

IT IS NO NORMAL FORUM BEHAVIOUR TO PRETEND WITHOUT WARNING: "YOU ARE A SPAMMER (even if it is not true) AND WE KILL YOUR WRITTEN TEXT (without warning and you won't be able to edit it anymore)!" That is just an offense to the user - not more and not less, sorry.
