Here are my suggestions, with comments :twisted:

1) All About speed!!

CopyBlockSize=1024 (these numbers are Ghisler recommended...)
CopyHugeBlockSize=10240
CopyBlockSizeOther=128
CopyHugeBlockSizeOther=32
SamePartitions=CDE,FGH
(depending on how many physical HDDs you have, how many partitions you have on each, and what their letters are.. cf. Help 4b)

I wonder why these settings are not so popular and do not have a single thread in this forum (or do they?). Probably it is just me, but these settings makes a HUGE difference in file copy speed, occasionaly reaching 300% of the default!!! I have a single Seagate 7200 rpm drive with 3 partitions on it. Try for yourselves, optimum settings are most likely system dependent.

2) InplaceRename=0
For mouse-haters!

3) Noreread=\
If you are frustrated with slow network paths, and mistakenly blame TC for it :x

4) PanelsVertical=1
Well, J/K.
===========================
I am in love with ghisler... no speculations please! you know why ...

Is there anyone who has the extension separated from the filename?
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Wow. Power users seem to use separated extensions. Can you tell me why?

So that I can immediately recognize the extension.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Exactly!

Please, if you can, do not post here ini settings that can be altered by TC's configuration. The thread is about ini settings that need to be added manually not about settings that can be edited manually! Thanks! ;)

Very strange, before TC version 6, the recommended value of CopyHugeBlockSizeOther in the help file is 1024, now it changed to 32, why does this value be changed to a smaller one? What does the change according to?

I also check the German help file included in the installation about the recommanded value of CopyHugeBlockSizeOther, it's 32 too, but STRANGE is the value of CopyBlockSizeOther(also 32) in German help file is different from the same one(128) in English help file!

I wonder is it a mistake in the help file?
Anyone has any clue?

Thx.

The same value...

Post by *Clo »

:)  Hi !
• I've the same value in the French help (I reported it in the Tutoriels too):

Code: Select all

CopyHugeBlockSizeOther=32
• Normally, it's "enough", since this instruction is applied about copying from >><< to two different hard disks, hence there are not mutiple jumps from the buffer to each disk. It's the explanation in the Help. However, you can experience other values -in a reasonable limit- without any risk I guess.

:mrgreen:   Kind regards,
Claude

Thx for your reply, I did some test on changing the value of CopyHugeBlockSizeOther, and as a result I think that 32 is surely a good value. :)

@pdavit:
If this thread was meant serious you should collect all useful ini settings and edit your first posting. Otherwise it will end up as another bloated thread with 1% of useful information hidden in dozens of pages.
CopyHugeBlockSizeOther is just the beginning...

The thread itself could be used for discussions about why you have chosen to not add a proposed ini-setting. Moderate please. ;)

In the language file (for me it's C:\Program Files\TotalCommander\LANGUAGE\WCMD_ENG.MNU )
remove the line before the Help item that keeps Help shoved over to the right. I've forgotten what the command is since mine's long gone, but Help is sitting right next to Tools where it ought to be!

This command is HELP_BREAK, but as for me, it is more convenient to keep it at it's original place as I do not use it as frequently as other menus...

You are right, and I was planning to add a post with a collection of settings ones the thread runs out of new ideas but then again I have a problem! How do I decide which settings will cover the majority of user needs? Tastes differ!

By the way, what did you mean by: "If this thread was meant serious..."?

I've checked my initial post and I couldn't locate anything humorous about it!!
