rename / move window

Post by *techbuddy »

When you move files from the left pane to the right pane using F6, there is a pop up and it shows that the files are being moved.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to increase the size of the window and hence the user can only see the first and the last characters of the path. The middle is replaced by "...".
Sometimes, it is useful to check what and from wheere is being transferred. Hence a resizable window would be a nice.

This has been requested a few times before. See the newest thread - hence there's no reason to open a new one. :)
In general, I'm against resizable progress dialogs (I prefer tooltips), but any solution would be helpful.

Not necessarily. It's completely normal to check a status of a longterm operation (what file/folder is currently processed).

What's wrong with resizeable progress dialogs? You don't really have to resize them if you don't want to. Just tell yourself they are non-resizeable, it's not like there's any visible difference. :)

Tooltips are nice, but you have to move the mouse there and compared with just quick look, it's extra work. Also with today's wide screens, it's hard to explain, why dialog width must be fixed at ~450 pixels.

I read author's reply in the other thread, about measuring text length, but I can't say that I understand it. With fixed dialog, he must still get the number of characters that will fit. I guess it's probably based on average character width for current font, Windows have some function for that. Only difference with resizeable dialog would be the need to recompute this value after dialog width changed.
