regexp on pdf files

Has anyone tried regexp on pdf files? It doesn't seem to work.

How does TotalCmd search through pdf files? By converting them to text files and then perform the search?

PDF files usually don't contain any plain text. You will need to use a plugin like xPDFSearch:

But no plugin will work if PDF doesn't contain text layer but only text as graphics.

That's true, if the file was scanned as an image, it will not work. But PDFs created via "Print to PDF" or converted from documents can be searched.
