Deleting takes TOO LONG !!!

Post by *musicmen1970 »

Deleting folders with TC can take up to few long minutes while using MS explorer is almost immediate. TC simply pauses for minutes before actually starting deleting(sometime even more than 10 min).

Please note that I am not talking about deleting TBs. It is the same result even when deleting hundreds MB.

ANY IDEA WHAT COULD BE THE CAUSE FOR THAT ?

I am using version 810 on a XPP machine. Same result on several machines

What you experience if probably TC calculating the total space of the files to be deleted.

You can turn that feature off at "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Operation" -> "Calculate space occupied by subdirectories" -> "before copying/deleting"

Even so, if you don't disable this feature you should be able to stop it by simply pressing Esc right after you have confirmed to start deleting.

I have a question in some kind of same topic.
After I press delete - a message pop-up. Message looks like usual MS message for deleting a file. In 7.57 - there was a TC message that poped up. So the mesage of TC was switсhed places with MS one. I've read somewhere in this forum that it was made in 8.xx versions. How can I turn on again TC message of deleting again?

Hi and welcome. Please search next time for a more related thread, or create a new one for each different question. Thank you.

Did you take a look into the configuration already?

It sounds like you have activated "Configuration"-> "Options..." -> "Copy/Delete" -> "General Copy+Delete options" -> "Use Explorer delete method (faster, cannot handle comments)" - deactivate this option.

No, this is the new VistaDelete method - it can be disabled with
VistaDelete=0
in wincmd.ini. It's NOT the Explorer delete method, but a new internal method which allows TC to find out which files have been deleted and which not. And it's MUCH faster than the old delete method. Unfortunately it comes with its own system dialogs.
