Place tabs vertically, not horizontally to show more of them

Most of the time I use so many tabs, that I have to scroll horizontally (I do not want to use more tab-lines because tabs are jumping).
My suggestion: place tabs not horizontally above the left or right window but optionally vertical on the left side of each window. Horizontally you may place - lets say - 10 tabs, vertically you will have place for 30 lines.
The feature "seperate directorytree" is a kind of wayaround but not so effectiv as tabs, because tabs will stay fixed whereas the directorytree changes.
