Show 'encrypted files' with font in 'Italics' format

Post by *mrbeeye »

Encryption is required more than ever thus I am filing this feature request: encrypted files (using EFS) should be visually distinguished from other files even if "Define colors by file type" is used.

I need it.
If italics is bad idea for performance reason then find out another solution. But custom column is not any help for me.

I guess competing commander has no problems with performance since it renders italics very often (directories are in italics font).

You cannot change the font, but you can at least set a different color:

1. Chose Configuration - Options - Color
2. Click on "Define colors by file type"
3. Click on "Add"
4. Click on "Define..."
5. Open the "Advanced" tab
6. Click on "Attributes" and "Encrypted"
7. Click "OK"
8. Enter a name, e.g. "Encrypted"
9. Click "OK"
10. Choose "Encrypted" frrom the list
11. Click OK
12. Choose a color
13. Click OK

If we have dimmed icons for hidden files, why not use similar option for encrypted files?
I know I can change a color and I use it heavily.

I am reviving this 6/8 years old thread.

Possible solutions for visually distinguish encrypted files simultaneously with "Define colors by file type" in use.

1) font style: italics
2) custom column: instead of a column containing a text, one could add column with colorized rectangle or other suitable shape
3) altered icon: dimmed or other similar effect

You can use a dimmed color which should be enough, I doubt very much different italics (or bold) will happen.

As described in the post above yours viewtopic.php?p=305275#p305275

You can setup various definitions, for example I have one for files <12 hours old, executable files, files that have a file comment (descript.ion via ctrl-z), images etc so you can have a multiple font colors all at the same time in a file panel, you can see an example here https://www.ghisler.com/screenshots/en/03.html (the MP3s are light purple, and the two jpgs are a darker shade) - this one is clearer https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/filecolors.png - you can see symlink is light grey, you can choose that color for compressed files.

I don't want dimmed colors, I want dimmed icons.

For example: I want all JPEGs to be in red and if they're encrypted, I want them either with dimmed icons or with italics font style (their filenames).

For now this is the only way, in various threads the developer indicated that at the moment he won't consider different fonts/style nor different fonts or background colors (apart from the alternating ones already present)

You could setup a column view so you can have yes/no column for encrypted so you can sort it too in the file panel.
Not the answer you want, but if you really need this information you either go with a color OR with a column OR combination of both.
It will be a long time before you see "font options" is my guess. So use what CAN be done or use another program that suits your needs better.

The main reason I've revived this thread was - long time has passed since my request.
I think the main reason for not implementing this feature was that author thought it would be too CPU intensive.
But we have more powerful CPUs these days.
And also I did not make up that feature, I had seen it in some * Commander (so some file manager had it implemented back in 2014!)
