Multi Rename Tool: rename in several steps (reload arrow)

Post by *Laszlo »

Lets say I've got a folder with the following files:

1234.txt
12345.txt

I select them, hit multi rename tool, and load default settings. In the search and replace input I wrote 1 to (clear). After start, there will be 234.txt and 2345.txt

But i'm NOT closing the multi rename tool, instead try to clear also "2". I wrote 2 to the "Search for" input, hit start, and for a second I see the popup window, but after closing the multi rename tool, the files are 234.txt and 2345.txt.

So the second attempt is not working.

Try:

1234.txt
12345.txt

- select files
- launch MRT
- set first renaming options
- click [Start]

234.txt
2345.txt

- click reload arrow, left of [Start]
- set second renaming options
- click [Start]

34.txt
345.txt

Done.

I see, there is a reload arrow. So it is intentional behavior?

intentional behavior?
This reload button is to reload already renamed files for an second renaming step, so yes, it's the intentional behavior I guess :D

See help:
(next step) Loads the rename results for the next rename step. Useful if you want to apply multiple rename rules to the same set of files. Shortcut: F5.

Or see tooltip.

OK?

There is another indication if TC really renames files: the preview. If you don't see any file names in the list, TC won't rename anything.

My thanks too! I never noticed the reload arrow. Perhaps replacing the arrow with the word "Reload" (sc. previous selection) would make this useful option more conspicuous.
