The current path currently provides arrow keys to scroll to the beginning or end of the path if there is not enough width to display it completely.

I would like to suggest a solution that make scrolling less likely as srolling has some downsides. I cannot click anywhere in the path hierarchy if the path part is not visible. Even more important is that I often use orientation especially when the current dir isn't displayed.
Just right-aligning wouldn't always help as the path beginning is also important.

So my suggestion is to introduce an option to limit the displayed path width of single path elements to a certain user-defined value (only if the path cannot be displayed completely). The path part(s) in question would then be cut in the middle or cut at the end using ellipsis.
This would not eliminate scrolling but it would reduce it and at the same time the path parts stay readable and clickable.

That's a very nice idea, which would be useful for many people! I will try to implement it. I need more such ideas.

By the way, suggest to add the following path format support.
file://xxxx/yyyy/zzzz

Currently in TC 8.51a:
\\xxxx\yyyy\zzzz => OK
file://xxxx/yyyy/zzzz => NG, user will needs to remove 'file:' by hand

But it Win7 explorer
\\xxxx\yyyy\zzzz => OK
file://xxxx/yyyy/zzzz => OK, it will transfer to \\xxxx\yyyy\zzzz automatically

OK, should be doable.
