.jpg files displaying the wrong icon for x64 [SOLVED]

Post by *mcclausky »

Hello,

I have Windows 10 and I just enabled Windows Photo Viewer as my default image App (instead of the horrible "photos" App). In order to enable Windows Photo Viewer I had to run a .reg script found in "How to Geek" Page.

The Problem: After running the script and enabling Windows Photo Viewer, TC x64 started displaying generic .jpg icons. File Explorer doesn't have this problem, it's just TC.
When I go to File => Associate with I get:
Applications\photoviewer.dll

Actions Open:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll", ImageView_Fullscreen %1

Please, your help will be appreciated.

Regards.

Anyone please?
For example PNG file icons don't have such problem, it's happening only with JPG files.

Thank you.

What do you get in
Files - Associate - Edit type - Change icon?

I get this:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe
and only one icon to select from (the very same generic icon).

I just had the same issue (for years) and now i got the inspiration to search in this forum.
After i read this post, i managed to make it work.
Here is a step by step help for those who are lost as i was:
[
First, select a jpg file.
then> goto top menu
Files - Associate With. "Associate" window appears.
The JPEG Image() option from the list is already selected
Edit type button - Change Icon - and on icon file field type: %1
hit Ok - Ok - Ok.
]
Also i want to thank you for your fantastic software mister Ghisler.
