I am not sure if this behavior is intentional, but it looked weird to me.
I tried searching and found quick search with dot-related topics, but none referring to the issue I encountered.
If you have a filename with multiple extensions, i.e. multiple strings delimited with dots, the first character after the dot in quick search will try to match any of the "extensions" within the filename.
I use quick search with the 2 checkboxes in Exact name match unticked.
For example:
* given the filename one.two.three.four
Use the quick search shortcut and start typing one, then press the dot button and then you may press tw or th or f.
This behavior is different, since if you will try to search for a contiguous string that does not contain the dot sign, it will not be possible.
So, the bottom line is: is this a feature? Does dot reset the search? Is this flaw relevant only for the Exact name match configuration I used?

It's configurable:
Configuration - Options - Quick search:
Exact name match:
Ending (last character before a typed dot . must match)
