A confusing behavior when doing SHIFT + Drag&Drop

Post by *Adams »

This is about a confusing behavior when doing Drag&Drop: keep the SHIFT key depressed to move the files instead of copying them.

For example, in a folder there are 6 subfolders, d1, d2, d3, d4, d5, d6, sorted by name.

Click on d3, then press and hold down Shift key and click on d6 to select d3, d4, d5, d6 consecutively. Right click on d4 and d5 to deselect these two. Now only d3 and d6 are selected.

Then hold down Shift key, drag the selected folders (d3 and d6) to move them into d1. But to do this dragging, if I click on d3, then d4 will be selected and moved together with d3 and d6. If I click on d6, then d5 will be selected and moved.

If at the beginning I select files one by one, then deselect files one by one, then the sequence of the selecting and the deselecting can also make some difference to this unexpected selection.

Press Shift after starting the drag. In fact, it's enough to press Shift right before dropping the files.

And, there are several threads about this topic.

Adams,
When you start dragging, you do a click first, and TC selects range of files on Shift+click, and then you drag... So please do as Dalai suggested.
