optimize TC for support running under Wine directly: for example when launch TC under wine TC recognize that and for example permit to edit permission on a file in /home/... (RWXR--R--).
I would really like to do that, but to my knowledge it's not possible for Windows programs to access features of Linux directly via Wine...

Would be great!
Because I am using Linux (Fedora 9) on a Flash Stick (2/4GB) as boot able second desktop. And having TC on Linux would be great.

I think TC works great under Wine,
the only problem is to access linux programs from TC.
There is a couple wrappers but I didnt manage to get the to work.

Of course a native linux version would be the best,
but if someone could do a good wrapper, I think many would be satisfied.

there is a nice wrapper, and you could have gotten support, but you have not replied yet :-)

It looks like Krusader is offering a TC clone...

As I said once: it's slower than TC under Wine.

Or did they improve that?

Few other people too but would it be enough?

At least Christian worked to make it more Wine-friendly.

Even though TC is by far a better product than the OS-es it runs on, I don't feel it would really fit Linux. Sure, there are lots of windowmakers and "visual file manager" attempts out there (like Nautulus etc.), but in my expierence, advanced Linux users are far too much in love with the shell (and rightly so ;)), to actively use those.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of TC running on Win, Linux & Mac makes me smile. Personally, though, I doubt whether all the effort would be worth it.
Especially so since TC seems to run fine under Wine.

It's really nice to read on History.txt, that Christian have made modifications on Tc 7.5 beta in order to work better on Linux, well done :!: .

Yes it is. He even rollback one change (something with drives labels) because it had Wine-only problems.

Indeed I had to write some workrounds to make e.g. thumbnails view work with Wine. Please report Wine-related problems too, so I can fix them!
