Sorting files doesn't work for me

Post by *Alonzo Mosley »

When I'm in the "Main" window, I can't sort for the life of me.

Oh, I have the little up and down arrow next to "Name", but it doesn't do anything when I click it. (Well, it flips from "up" to "down" but the Sort doesn't change). If I click on "Date", the black arrow moves to "Date", but it doesn't sort when I click on it.

What's the trick?

Kim: What's wrong with it?
Dan: It's in several pieces on my floor.

Are you trying to sort directories? By default only files may be sorted by any column, directories always sorted by name, but you can change this behaviour in Configuration - Display dialog.

No I'm trying to sort files.

In Win Explorer, if I click on "Date", it sorts the files by date. If I click on "Type", it sorts alpha by type, etc.

If I click on Configuration - Dispaly, it brings up a host of options, none of which appear to be "sorting".

But of course, as I try to record a video of me not etting the results I want, everything behaves A-OK....

You may at least take a screenshot with sort header showing a sorting mode that is different from one used in file list. I suppose there is no need in video if you use full view (with timestamps and attributes).

Look again - "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Display" -> "Sorting directories" -> "Always by name" | "Like files (also by time)"

I was pointing out that there IS a sorting option in that dialog - Alonzo Mosley claims that there isn't.

This:

Makes me think that the problem solved itself...

Sometimes the very act of asking for help means that problems mysteriously resolve. This has maddened me for months, but now I can't replicate the issue. Trust me - when I'm far away from my Internet, it will pop back up!

Nevertheless, it took me three times in my "Display" dialog to find the box (if it weren't for your picture, I probably never would have!).

Thanks for the replies.
