Android/Data folder content - Android 11

Post by *sazhagianambi »

Hi,

I was able to access the 0/Android/Data folders fine in Pixel 3 (without Root access) using Total Commander (Android 10) so far... This week OS upgraded to Android 11 now Only folder I see inside 0/Android/Data is com.ghisler.android.totalcommander folder... No other folders showing up for other apps.

I understand they changes how this data folder gets access in Andorid 11 compare to older version, however as File manager I thought TotalCommander can still access entire folder.... No? Is there anything else I need to do this get working. Any Help?

Thank you.

No, Android/data is now restricted on Android 11, not even the built-in Android file manager can access it. A lot of people have complained about this to Google during the beta test, but all complaints were ignored.
You should be able to access the folders from a connected Windows PC or Mac, though.

For other users with this problem: I found a way to access Android/data also on Andcroid 11, all I had to do is ask for access from the "Files" app as I do for other virtual folders. You can't access it by requesting access to /storage/emulated/0, you have to specifically ask to access
/storage/emulated/0/Android/data

User sazhagianambi has already confirmed that it works on the Pixel 3, so I have put it in TC 3.10 beta 11 now.

My phone upgraded to Android 11, and I have Problems wit

How can I request /storage/emulated/0/Android/data?

After click on the third line (+ Icon Benutzerdefinierter Ort SD-Karte,USB,...) the page from the "Files" App open.
But I see not the Android/data folder. Only the media folder:
Galaxy Note 10+ > Android : media
SD-Karte > Android : media

I installed the App "Files" from Marc apps, which is a link to the internal "File" App from Setting.

In the App "Files" I have access to
Galaxy Note 10+ > Android : data, media, obb and the internal folders

Have I set a special right for Total Commander?

I use the actual version 3.20 from Play Store.
Form the Windows computer I can acess //Phone/Android/data.

From the "SD-Karte" the "Files" App (and also the Windows computer with USB connection) dont show the folders in SD-Karte > Android/data (it is empty) But the SD-Card (exFat) is not protected - if I remove it from the phone and connect it direct to the computer, I can access all.

On Android 11, when you go to /storage/emulated/o/Android/data, there is a new link "-> Installed Apps". You need to tap on this and then allow access on the next page. If this link is missing, you have an outdated version of Total Commander.

You can't access the Android/data folder on SD cards, Android blocks that.

Perfect. I changed the app settings to use the internal storage instead of sd card.

But I can not use the new folder ///_Android_data in a shell command of a button?
ls %P
show the error:

Funktion nicht unterstützt!
Erweiterung
OK

It's a virtual folder, not accessible via file system, so you cannot use it from the shell.

Is there any workaround to automate (@Android 11) copy from anywhere to Android/data/* folders now. Using TotalCommander of course.

Android 11 has totally crushed my principal reason for using a tablet - portable off network access to media content: music, reading, recipes, etc. What's the prognosis for for returned Tc access to sd storage?

SD storage access depends on the device vendor:
It works with all Samsung devices via path /storage/1234-5678
It works with some vendors via virtual folder: Home folder - "Add custom location"

On Android 11, you have to click on "-> Installed apps" to go to the virtual folder, you cannot bookmark /0/Android/data because it's not accessible. TC shows a pseudo folder so you can go down to either TC's own folder or the virtual folder with all apps.

Hi,
I found this today and I can now access (with a rooted file manager) both \android\data folders:
https://androinterest.com/2020/11/30/access-android-data-folder-in-android-11/

First of all, Download any File manager that asks for Root access Like Mixplorer or Es File explorer.
Install the File Manager and Open it.
Now, Go to Root Directory.
Give the Root Permission.
Go to “mnt/pass_through/0/emulated/0/Android/data” directory
There you can access the data folder in android 11.
Now, you can make changes manually.

Total Commander can access these folders even without root, you just need to give it permission for each one.
