Show more hotkey assignments below command bar

Presumably as a relic from Norton Commander or from the days when screen real estate was very limited, TC shows only 7 hotkeys below the command bar, F3-F8 and Alt+F4. Why not show more? Ideally, one should be able to configure which keys to display in the configuration file, WINCMD.INI, if not in the Configuration menu. In view of the widespread availability of inexpensive high resolution screens, I suggest F1-F12 and Alt+F4 as the new default.

Is anyone actually using them? Vertical screen space is limited, especially on modern 16:9 and wider screens. And we already have a toolbar above the file panels and now even between them. So I hid the bottom panel/toolbar to restore the screen space and to not have duplicated buttons there.

I don't mind having more buttons there as I won't see them anyway. But I'm curious how it will help you.

I would like to have 3 assigments for the function key.
Normal, Shiftet, Control

rsbrux,
The only problem is that all of them need to be translated. Another issue arises if the user reconfigures such a shortcut (this can happen now as well).

In the meantime you may want to try petermads' Extended Total Commander Menus

Much better than remembering hotkeys is to have all possible commands (and more!) in the main menu.

Thanks, but having grown up long before the desktop paradigm appeared, and having subsequently graduated from Norton Commander to Total Commander, I find hotkeys far more efficient, and, unlike most Windows applications, TC doesn't have too many. :-) Nonetheless, as I fade into senescence, remembering them can sometimes be a challenge, which is why I appreciate the little "reminder" bar at the bottom ;-)
