Copy files to same dir with autorename

Currently here on Windows 7 it's possible in TC to get the autorenamed copied of files in the same directory just by selecting them, pressing Ctrl+C and then Ctrl+V. Then the copies of selected files appear in the same directory with origibal names and added localized "- copy (#)" additional text, where # is the number which appears if there second and newer same file copies created this way. But such files copy with autorename is actually done by Explorer, so the comments for copies aren't copied.

Total Commander also as a way to make file copies in the same dir by calling a copy dialog with Shift+F5.
However, is doesn't have the autorename feature, so after an attemt to make file copies this way, TC shows an error:

Code: Select all

---------------------------
Total Commander
---------------------------
You cannot copy a file to itself!
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
It would be nice if in Shift+F5 dialog there would be the autorename setting (maybe with the new names pattern also defined by Multi-Rename Tool placeholders). MRT itself clould probably introduce "copy into the source location with rename" mode, so it would be possible to see what target names all the the copies will get.

Also, Total Commander for Android has a nice feature to make autorenamed file copies in source location if to "copy" them to Home folder. For desktop Total Commander, similar feature could be implemented if to "copy"/drag&drop files to the root of "Network Neighborhood" (opened by cm_OpenNetwork).

Ctrl-C,V also works for TC to create "- copy (#)" files.
CTRL+F5 is on default assigned to "Sort by date/time"
SHIFT+F5 is "Copy files (with rename) in the same directory"

Yes, but as I wrote, this way not TC but the Explorer is actually creating the copies.

I meant Shift, fixed that in the post, thanks for correction!

TC already has Autorename copied or target files as options in the copy dialog box.

Yes, it is available in the Copy dialog called by F5, but not in the Copy dialog which appears after Shift+F5.
