I checked. Yes, the -appdata option also works for the portable version of SumatraPDF. But the name SumatraPDF-settings.txt cannot be changed, only the directory. What parameters do you want to change? Only the presence of tabs?

Being able to change the directory would be enough to support multiple settings files. Like for example, that's what i am currently thinking of how to resolve this:
  • %localappdata%\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF-settings.txt

    default location used by the stand-alone SumatraPDF viewer

  • %localappdata%\SumatraPDF\TCSumatraPDF\SumatraPDF-settings.txt

    for the SumatraPDF instances used in TC, passing the directory path "%localappdata%\SumatraPDF\TCSumatraPDF" as -appdata commandline argument (either taken from the plug-in's ini file and passed to the SumatraPDF instanced started by the plug-in, or with the help of a proxy .exe i could slap together as mentioned earlier; the latter of which i am not yet 100% certain will work nicely if the plug-in inspects the process it started for object/gui handles or id's or some such)

What parameters do you want to change? Only the presence of tabs?
For now, the tab setting is the one thing i am concerned with regarding my situation. (If the plug-in would manage this somehow then there would be no need for me anymore to employ multiple settings files.)

When I have time, I may consider using several settings files. I did this for AkelPad. But there, using settings files, you can completely change the appearance and functionality of the program. For SumatraPDF the need for this is not so obvious. But I agree about the tabs. Many people use them. Of course it's not very convenient
that it is not the file name that needs to be changed, but the directory name, but these are nuances.

Thanks for looking into it! But don't worry if you don't find the time or motivation to do it.
The help and feedback you provided is most appreciated, not to forget creating and maintaining the plug-in itself. So again, regardless of how you decide, thanks a lot!

Thank you for another fine update, AkulaBig. :)

For everybody's convenience, here's the direct download link.
And the plugin's home page on totalcmd.net.

EDIT: fixed typo

Thanks a lot for the new options.
For me, it fixes the problem with different Windows sizes and positions.
- Associated PDF viewer in double click.
- Lister (F3) viewer
- Quick View

Previously, after using Quick View, the next double click invocation always started SumatraPDF in full screen.

Hmm if I run SumatraPDF-3.5.2-64.exe after it has been used by the plugin in Lister, then the SumatraPDF-3.5.2-64.exe is still being maximized.

So, use separate configuration files for the plugin. Then for normal opening, configure the configuration file separately.

I use the x64 portable SumatraPDF 3.6.15927
and the TCSumatraPDF Ini File options to set the settings dir for Lister and Quick View mode.

Code: Select all

[Options]
path64=C:\Tools\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe
path=C:\Tools\SumatraPDF\SumatraPDF.exe
DirIniL=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-L\
DirIniQ=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-Q\
So I have 3 versions of the SumatraPDF-settings.txt file.
1. In C:\Tools\\SumatraPDF\
2. In C:\Tools\Wincmd\PLUGINS\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-L\
3. In C:\Tools\Wincmd\PLUGINS\TCSumatraPDF\Ini-Q\

Whatever I set in any of these modes will not be changed using any of the other options.

Thanks - it worked after i manually put a copy of SumatraPDF-settings.txt in the DirIniL and DirIniQ folders.

Yes, only the paths to the configuration files are written in sumatrapdf.ini. You must manually place these files into folders. If you specified paths in sumatrapdf.ini, but did not place the files in folders, an error message will appear.
