Search... for same files, but with different name

Post by *sexy69 »

I have 2 movie names with the same name in my directory.
They only differ by year, e.g.
Josee (2020) .srt
Josee (2021) .srt

How to find them in the catalog?

Containment (2015).srt
Josee (2020).srt
Josee (2021).srt
Slalom (2020).srt

And the funniest thing is that Total Commander changes
year incrementing by 1 when copying a file with the same name.

The names of movies on the Internet are saved as: Movie (2000)
After copying, it changes to (2001).

Maybe it would be better if TC saved the file as:
Film (2000) [2], Film (20001) [3]
or:
Film (2000) {2}, Film (20001) {3}.

The increment is due to your naming convention title (Year). (number) at the end, is understood by TC as a duplicated file if you select auto-rename.
Unfortunately, you cannot edit the template used by auto_rename just switch mode to allow a space or not before (number).

You should suggest alternate mode or template for auto_rename !

„just switch mode to allow a space or not before (number)”

Where can it be toggled?

In the [Configuration] section of your wincmd.ini file:
Help wrote:AutoRenameMode=3 Determines how files are auto-renamed when copying or in multi-rename tool. Sum of:
1: append number (x) separated by space, e.g. name (2).txt instead of name(2).txt
2: start number at (2), not (1), e.g. name.txt, name (2).txt etc.
So AutoRenameMode=1 will add a space before the number, and start counting at 1.

TC without AutoRenameMode=3 changes
Hacker (2016) (1).mkv to Hacker (2016) (2).mkv

So I have to rename every movie from
Hacker (2016).mkv to Hacker (2016) (1).mkv?

Yes or someting else without (x) in the name - suggetsions:
Hacker [2016].mkv
Hacker {2016}.mkv
Hacker_2016.mkv
Hacker - 2016.mkv
Hacker-2016.mkv

If you don't use [] or {} in your movie file names, it should be pretty easy to do the first tho suggestions with TC's Multi-Rename Tool.

BTW if you in Windows Explorer (Windows 7) copy Hacker (2016).mkv to a folder where it already exists, then Explorer will also copy it to Hacker (2017).mkv if you choose not to overwrite - so TC is compatible with Explorer in that respect.

Window 10's File Explorer does not even give the option of autorenaming the files (Windows constantly is becomming a lesser product)

It should be possible to choose the form of the subscription.
Hacker (2016).mkv
to
Hacker (2016) (2).mkv
Hacker (2016) (3).mkv

or:
plik (2)
to
plik (2) (2)
