How to make custom columns for both audio and video?

Post by *brian »

Even though this is one of my oldest fora memberships (it's like, só old I even use my real name, which I don't do anywhere, like, everrrrr) I also never ever come here, because Windows Commander is just that good, there's hardly any issues.

So, today is the first time that I saw it's possible in WinCMD to have custom columns for music folders.
Therefor, my question now after >18 years of membership, is:
How do I do that? Which plugins do I need? And can these directories indeed be context-dependent, in the sense that it will show different columns for music folders and different ones for video folders? And normal columns for directories which are neither?
Please see below pic for an example of what I mean.

We call it WindowsCommander because it commands Windows, not "Total".

Hello,
you can use MediaInfoWDX https://totalcmd.net/plugring/MediaInfoWDX.html for this.
This content plugin uses the well known MediaInfo tool from https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo.
I actually do that too, and have columns for info such as duration, codec, dimensions etc.

As for the other thing you are asking, "context-dependent", there is the Auto Switch Mode in the View Modes settings, which does just that.
I've never used it, so I can only suggest you read the Help.

Kind regards

Download and unpack the plugins, they contain mostly a read.me

And/or search the forum for the plugin name for to find the introduction page.

I finally managed to get a custom column, but now the plugin doesn't work as intended. Please see this picture: Image: https://i.postimg.cc/LgMdwXqF/Missing-Media-Info-DLL-screenshot.jpg
It says:
"Missing MediaInfo.dll" "Please see the installation section of Readme"
What I've done:
copy MediaInfo.dll and a copy named MediaInfo64.dll to these directories:
C:\Windows
C:\Windows\System32
c:\Programs\codecs\MediaInfo\
c:\totalcmd852\plugins\MediaInfoWDX\
c:\totalcmd852\plugins\MediaInfoWDX64\

I followed the readme, so the content of the MediaInfoWDX directory is:
|- MediaInfoWDX.wdx
|- MediaInfoWDX.wdx64
|- Fields.cfg
|- MediaInfo.dll
|- MediaInfo64.dll
|- pluginst.inf
|- Readme.txt

.... but no joy.

How do I get it to work, so that I will see the Video and Audio bitrates?

Hi,

I think this will help you (your MediaInfoWDX directory looks good).

EDIT: Added...
..\Totalcmd\Plugins\wdx\MediainfoWDX\

Code: Select all

Fields.cfg 99 006	21.06.2018 22:56	-a--

To solve this problem you need to install these missing libraries, in this case Visual C++ runtime 2015 or 2017.

2 brian - first of all - don't use https://totalcmd.net/plugring/MediaInfoWDX.html, get this one -> http://totalcmd.net/plugring/mediainfo64.html it is newer or just try both.

brian: Caution: The main problem is the naming of files which is mixed up very often!

Using the original files of the latest MediaInfo_GUI_21.09_Windows_x64_WithoutInstaller.7z :

Copy files
MediaInfo_i386.dll to plugin folder as MediaInfo.dll
MediaInfo.dll to plugin folder as MediaInfo64.dl

Okay, it now works, sort of. Not the MediaInfo one, but the media one. I also installed the Visual C++ thing. It now reads all video files, except some of the Matroska ones.

I now also understand how custom columns work, and a small personal bonus, it seems the extension column will be a fixed width.

I will try @squ_wizards suggestion tomorrow when I got more time.
Thanks, all.
