I think Dalai mixed Total Commander and Explorer. In Explorer since Windows Vista or 7 Backspace become acting as "back" while before it was "up". But in TC Backspace has always been acting as "up".

I don't even think it is possible to pin the first line because TC is using listbox and not listview in it's file panels...?

You can't, but there are separate "\" and ".." buttons which are always in the same location vertically.
