TC10.50b1: Display of plugin names -- Change Request

"06.07.21 Added: Quick view panel: Show used plugin in title (normally used for path) behind the file name (32/64)"
Great! However, this is inconsistent to the regular lister which displays
(<plugin>) - [<filename>]
I would prefer the QV string format to be consistent/identical to the lister...

That's because the quick view panel title only has half the available space - and the file name is more important than the plugin name.

Hm. Well, agree and not agree.
I guess it depends on the situation.
In case of problems with a plugin I would still like to see the plugin name. In this case, the filename is not that important.
And: The filename is visible anyways in the other panel (since it is obviously the one where the cursor is)...

It would be good to limit displayed length of plugin name, but I haven't seen any wlx with filename longer than 16 characters. So it's not a real problem...

I agree to Usher. Limiting the plugin name length might be an option: "aSuperLongPluginN..."
Still, I find the current string format critical, as the plugin name could be mistaken as part of the file name.
Example: Assume a jpg file "test" (no extension -- I have that quite often)
Display in QV: "test - imagine"
Question: Is the file name "test" and we are using the imagine plugin OR is the file name "test - imagine" and we are using no plugin?
Ok, as an experienced user you probably know. But still, an unambiguous format should be used in QV AND in lister.
My suggestion:
I would even show
in case of no plugin.

There is no doubt here - the interface should be consistent, so if in Lister we have
Code: Select all
Lister (pluginname) - [filepathname]
in Quick View should be at least
or
"Quick View" and file path removed to save space
And this is good idea to write (internal) while no plugin is used
P.S. i think that might be good idea to remove brackets for filename also in Lister

And this is good idea to write (internal) while no plugin is used
It would be even better is "Internal" could be elaborated to show whether
GDI+ / DirectShow / MCI or IrfanView/XnView is used.

Support for this.
I sometimes miss this info very much and trying to figure it out.

I could add showing "Explorer Preview" to that list - I know that can be seen in the Options menu if Explorer Preview is active, but it would be nice to see it in the Title too, because the view can be evoked by hitting 4 if there is a rule for it in "Define view method by file type".
