How to set 'view images priority' for irfanview and plugins

Post by *lezerogan2 »

Hi,
I configured that IrfanView will be my default internal viewer.
I have several plugins like: ulister, imagine, photoviewer...
When I try view an image file, plugins have priority over irfanview.
I know I can configure for specific file format like "dcm", an entry in "view methods by file type" and choose "4i - internal". I have to add an entry to each file type.
Is there a way to revers the order and give priority to irfanview first for all images, and only if it cannot show the file, try the plugins?
Thanks

4i will use Irfanview/Xnview for file types TC can't handle internally like tif files. When you then press 4, it will us a plugin instead.

Sorry. I was not clear enough.

In TC, when I press F3 or CTRL-Q on an image file, most of the cases one of the plugins shows the image. like:
Imagine (bmp, dib, gif, jpg, pcx, png, psd, webp….) ,
ulister (xps, ai),
photoviewer (heic ,raw, avif).

Only few formats (svg, dib, djvu….) are shown by "lister" (which can be TC itself or irfanview, I can't tell).
Unlike today, I would prefer that irfanview as the internal viewer, will be the first to try to display all the formats and only if it fails, try the plugins. I want irfanview to be the default viewer when pressing F3.
Of course irfanview does not appear in "lister plugins table", so I cannot give it the priority order.

Have you checked out the options if that helps in your case?

Configuration > Options... >> Edit/View >>>> [Configure internal viewer]

>>>>> [Multimedia]
[x] Use IrfanView ..... other than BMP
Additional IrfanView file types: *.jpg *.png *.svg

Maybe that helps. Or use that keywords to find more about in forum and History.txt

Unfortunately, this does not help.

I also tried to set up IrfanView like this before - without success.

It doesn't help either if you go to Configuration - Lister Plugins and put this plugin in the top position.

Code: Select all

%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\wlx\TCIrfanView\IrfanView.wlx	MULTIMEDIA & (EXT="ACR"|EXT="ANI"|EXT="ARW"|EXT="AWD"|EXT="B3D"|EXT="BMP"|EXT="CDR"|EXT="CLP"|EXT="CRW"|EXT="CR2"|EXT="CR3"|EXT="CRW"|EXT="CUR"|EXT="DCM"|EXT="DDS"|EXT="DCR"|EXT="DCX"|EXT="DIB"|EXT="DJVU"|EXT="DNG"|EXT="ECW"|EXT="EMF"|EXT="ERF"|EXT="EXR"|EXT="FPX"|EXT="G3"|EXT="GIF"|EXT="HDP"|EXT="HEIC"|EXT="ICO"|EXT="ICS"|EXT="IFF"|EXT="IMA"|EXT="IMG"|EXT="IW44"|EXT="J2K"|EXT="JFIF"|EXT="JP2"|EXT="JPC"|EXT="JPE"|EXT="JPEG"|EXT="JPF"|EXT="JPG"|EXT="JPM"|EXT="JLS"|EXT="JNG"|EXT="JXL"|EXT="JXR"|EXT="KDC"|EXT="LBM"|EXT="MNG"|EXT="MOS"|EXT="MPO"|EXT="MRC"|EXT="MRW"|EXT="MSK"|EXT="NEF"|EXT="OFR"|EXT="QOI"|EXT="PBM"|EXT="PCD"|EXT="PCX"|EXT="PDN"|EXT="PEF"|EXT="PGM"|EXT="PNG"|EXT="PPM"|EXT="PSB"|EXT="PSD"|EXT="PSP"|EXT="RAF"|EXT="RAS"|EXT="RAW"|EXT="RGB"|EXT="RLE"|EXT="RW2"|EXT="RWL"|EXT="SFF"|EXT="SGI"|EXT="SID"|EXT="SRF"|EXT="SRW"|EXT="SUN"|EXT="SVG"|EXT="SWF"|EXT="TGA"|EXT="TIF"|EXT="TIFF"|EXT="WBMP"|EXT="WEBP"|EXT="WDP"|EXT="WMF"|EXT="WPG"|EXT="WSQ"|EXT="X3F"|EXT="XBM"|EXT="XCF"|EXT="XPM"|EXT="XR")

Whats the real problem with just adding the required extensions in "view methods by file type"
as the poster itself already knows.
That is a one time job and no one has so many file types that it takes long.

Well, adding

Code: Select all

FORCE & (
to each plugin's _detect line (before the existing one) prevents the plugin from being used automatically. However, since this FORCE flag makes the plugin only being used when a user presses the 4 key in Lister, I'm not sure it helps. But I wanted to mention it anyway.

Example for one of the Lister plugins I use:

Code: Select all

5_detect="FORCE & (EXT="CONF" | EXT=...)

I know I can configure for specific file format like "dcm", an entry in "view methods by file type" and choose "4i - internal". I have to add an entry to each file type.
That's what I meant you should do. You don't need a separate entry for each file type, just list them all separated by spaces, e.g.
*.jpg *.gif *.png *.whatever

You mean it like this way?:

Configuration > Options... > Edit/View >> [Configure internal viewer]     ((or via Lister > Options > Configure...))
>>> [Multimedia]
[x] [Define view method by file type... ]
>>>> [Add]
>>>>> enter *.jpg *.gif *.png [OK]
>>>>>> Please choose default view modes: 4i [OK]
[OK]
[OK]

4i will use Irfanview/Xnview for file types TC can't handle internally like tif files.
When you then press 4, it will us a plugin instead.

Additional question:
"modes" means we can add more than one?

In the [Define view method by file type... ] you can add predefined searches instead of typing all the extensions. These searches are used in multiple situations in TC.

Later if you need to add or remove extension you can just update the predefined search and the change will be available everywhere. It keep things consistent.

Search the forums, there are multiple examples of user created predefined searches.

In the meantime I managed to install TC IrfanView Plugins. *)
I noticed some shortcomings and reported them here: TC IrfanView Plugin - discussions.

BEFORE installation, you can make a selection from the following options:
  1. TC IrfanView Plugin 1.71
    Only install TC IrfanView Plugin 1.71.
    [Ctrl+Q - Quick View Panel], F3 Lister (Configuration > Edit/View ...)
    2lezerogan2
    Configuration -> Options... -> Plugins -> Lister plugins (.WLX): Configure ->
    Position this installed plugin "%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\wlx\TCIrfanView\IrfanView.wlx"
    further up in this window, i.e. before all other plugins that can display images, such as Imagine, PhotoViewer, etc.
    It is even advisable to position this plugin at the top position at least as long as
    until the setup of the plugin has been completed and successfully tested.
    Press the up arrow on the left of the "Add" button several times to the desired position.
    After pressing "F3 Lister" images are then first displayed with IrfanView in the Lister.

  2. TC IrfanView Plugin 2.53
    Only install TC IrfanView Plugin 2.53.
    F3 opens an image directly in IrfanView (without Lister)

  3. TC IrfanView Plugin 1.71 AND TC IrfanView Plugin 2.53
    Install TC IrfanView Plugin 1.71 and TC IrfanView Plugin 2.53.
    • TC IrfanView Plugin 1.71 -> [Ctrl+Q - Quick View Panel], F3 Lister ...
    • TC IrfanView Plugin 2.53 -> after calling the Lister with F3 press the number 4 (4 picture/multimedia)
      F3 opens an image in IrfanView (without Lister) AND the Lister window closes automatically.
*) A documentation of my findings is currently only available to me in German.

Please note the following important information(!):

%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\wlx\TCIrfanView\irfanview.ini
Here you have to enter the paths to the IrfanView applications - example:

Code: Select all

[Options]
path64=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Tools\IrfanView-portable-64bit\IrfanView\i_view64.exe
path=%COMMANDER_PATH%\Tools\IrfanView-portable\IrfanView\i_view32.exe
Another example:
%COMMANDER_PATH%\Plugins\wlx\TCIrfanView_1.71\irfanview.ini
In this case, the paths to the IrfanView applications must also be entered (as shown above).

EDIT:
Here the mentioned settings were described in more detail!
