Custom menu not working in v10.5 but does in v10.0-RC4

Post by *joe910 »

My environment is Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.739) and both v10 and v10.5 RC4 x64 of Total Commander. Both versions are using the same wincmd.ini file - images are here: Image: https://ibb.co/Lh6PbXT Image: https://ibb.co/qL6TDH9

My custom menu works perfectly with v10 and has for some time, but v10.5 RC4 uses the default menu. I started with Beta 1 of v10.5 and my custom menu worked for some time and since I rely mostly on shortcuts and buttons, I didn’t catch it until today when I needed a menu item. I have re-installed RC4, but no change. I have recreated my custom menu but that did not help. I have changed the menu location. In all cases v10 continued to use the correct menu and v10.5 RC4 did not.

I decided to try all 10.5 versions. It worked fine up through RC3. It is only in RC4 where the menu that is used is the default. In all versions prior, the menu file in wincmd.ini was set to default when I installed a new beta/RC, but when I changed the menu to mine in v10 or the beta, it was set for both versions. In RC4 the Wincmd.ini has the correct entry “Mainmenu=C:\Totalcmd\Settings\TCMainMenu-Current.mnu”. V10 respects that, but v10.5_RC4 does not.

When I installed each 10.5 version, I did noticed that each one reset the menu to the default and I had to manually change it back. That surprised me. Is that the intended behavior?

Confirmed, but there is another strange thing. When I change from normal to dark the language changes from Dutch to English as reported. But when I stay in the dark mode and save the settings and I quit TC, then when I restart TC it comes back in the normal mode and uses the Dutch language. So there is more to this subject. This happens when in the configuration -> colors -> Dark mode -> "Only when enabled for Windows 10 Apps" is set. When you set it to "Always enabled" or "Always disabled", the change from normal to dark is remembered and when you restart TC it comes back in the same mode!
I user the latest version of Windows 11 (21H2) and RC4 of TC 64 bit.

Does it work correctly in the 32-bit version? You can just install the combined 32-bit+64-bit version as an update.
