[TC10.52rc4] Separate tree, no expand button if you cancel wait dialog

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC10.52rc4] Separate tree, no expand button if you cancel wait dialog

Post by *white »

  • If you click the expand button in front of Network in the separate tree, you might get a wait dialog.
  • In the wait dialog press Esc and wait a few seconds.
  • There is no expand/collapse button in front of Network. But if you pretend there is one, you can still click the invisible expand button to expand the folder.

Hmm, I never get a wait dialog - it sometimes takes a while before the item expands, and even if I press Escape during that wait i still end up with having a collapse button after the Network folder has unfolded.

I can confirm that the expand button gets removed when you cancel the expansion. This is done when the expand function is called but does not return any directories, e.g. because the subdirectories were deleted outside of Total Commander in the meantime. Cancelling the reading has the same effect. I do not plan to change this behaviour.

How do you cancel the expansion? Escape doesn't seem to do it for me.

You can only cancel it when it takes longer than 5 seconds, e.g. when the expansion of the network folder takes more than 5 seconds. Then TC shows a dialog box which informs the user that it is busy reading the network folder. This dialog box has a Cancel button. This can happen when you have two or more PCs, open the Network folder, close it, and then turn off one of the PCs. Windows is rather slow with detecting such changes.

Hmm, in that case, here the turned off PC is still shown in the list - it isn't until I click on the PC that I get a dialog saying: "Reading directories: (Esc to abort)", and when that dialog dissapears the collapse-button next to Network is shown.

When connected to your private network, make sure your network profile is set to Private Network. And then enable network discovery if it isn't enabled already.

I have those settings already, execpt under Windows 7 there is only a “Turn on network discovery” setting - there is no “Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices”

Folders may not have any subfolders in them. But the network folder always contains the workgroup subfolder, doesn't it?
