Selecting Total Commander Window "holds the mouse click down"

Post by *BeRoM »

Every time I switch back to my open Total Commander window, usually by clicking somewhere in the black space of the window, the mouse click seems to be "held down" so when I start moving my mouse, it highlights all of the files/folders that my mouse moves over.

This is very annoying. Is there a setting to stop this?

More specifically, let's say I am in Outlook checking emails on Screen 1, then I move my cursor over to screen 2 where Total Commander is... when I click inside TC, the click "remains held" until I click again. Normally, I click near the bottom of TC where there is open space (no files or folders), then when I move my cursor up to towards the drive buttons to navigate elsewhere, everything in the cursor path gets highlighted.

Any suggestions?

You probably utilize AutoHotkey or similar tool for some purpose? AutoIt, PPro?

Yes, I use a ton of AutoHotKey's.

How does that affect selecting the window? Is there a fix?

EDIT: I disabled and exited all AHK's and the problem still persists.

Clean the mouse inside from dust. :)

Do you have have TC configured Mouse selection mode to Left mouse button? If so, it could be the rubber band selection. See Options > Operation > Rubber band selection (only available if Mouse selection mode is Left mouse button).

Genius! I knew it was something simple, but I could not find it. Thank you, @Dalai , for your help.

Welp, I spoke too soon... now that I know what Rubber Band mode is, I actually want it enabled as I use it frequently. But the self-highlighting problem still persists... anytime I click inside the TC window coming from another window, it's like TC is holding how the mouse button. Frustrating!

You could try a fresh wincmd.ini, like this:

Code: Select all

totalcmd64.exe /i="%TEMP%\fresh.ini"
to check if it's some TC setting.

I had this problem when using a virtual machine, e.g. when pressing the mouse button inside the virtual machine and then moving the mouse out of it. Then the operating system in the virtual machine didn't get the "mouse up" notification. Otherwise it could be a dying mouse button switch.
