(Solved) Android WiFi/WLAN Plugin for Totalcmd not working

Windows 10 Pro x64
WiFi/WLAN Plugin for Totalcmd v3.5 (latest)
Android 11

I have been using this Plugin with no problems for several years. I never had a problem with it. But I am no longer able to transfer files via WiFi from my Android phone to my computer. I tried several times, and tried disabling the firewall on the PC but it isn't working.

But now when I try to use it I get the message below. I think it may have to do with a new phone I am using. I can't remember if it ever worked since I got this phone, but I don't think it ever did. So I suspect the problem is with the phone. But I don't know what to look for. WiFi on the phone works great and I don't know of any problems with the phone or the computer.

Any ideas appreciated!

My guess is that the browser you are using is trying to connect via https, but the WiFi plugin only supports unencrypted http. Why? It does not have a server name, so it would be impossible to get a valid certificate.

Try entering the address with http:// at the start before the IP address.

Thank you for your quick reply. Makes sense. But alas, I have already done that and no luck.

Don't know what else to try.

Which browser are you using? I tried with Bing, Chrome and Firefox, and it works with both when you explicitly enter the address with the http prefix.

Using Edge (it's Chrome based.)

But also tried Chrome and got the same result.

UPDATE...

Just tried FireFox and it worked!

Used FF for years as my goto browser. Switched to Chrome and then Edge.

Having some regrets now that this worked!

Thank you for the idea!

UPDATE#2...

Got it working in Edge.

I think I found out what the problem was.

I was using http:// and not https://. That part was okay.

But being lazy, I was automatically inserting the URL through a password manager program instead of typing it in manually. Then I just changed the last 4 digits or anything else needed to match the URL in Send via WiFi. This always worked before but stopped working for an unknown reason.

I find when I type the entire url in manually, rather than using the password manager, it works! My guess is that there must have been some kind of corruption in the copied URL that prevented it from being read as the correct url. But now, when I typed it in manually, it worked.

I will have to take a closer look at the password manager and see if I can figure out why that stopped working. Does not seem to be the fault of the plug-in.

THANK YOU! This one is solved! đź‘Ť

Thank you for pointing out the main reason and so the solution.

That probably removed the http:// prefix - I have similar problems when I pick an URL from the browser history...

Same problem but the solution doesn't work for me. I've used Send via WiFi for many years with never a problem until now although I haven't used it for a few months. I wonder if browsers now are blocking access to everything that's not https no matter what you do to stop them. I tried Chrome, FF and Pale Moon. In Chrome I turned off every security setting I could find under Settings > Privacy and Security and I turned off Windows Firewall entirely but it still doesn't work.

Win 8.1
Android 12

Error in Chrome is:

This site can’t be reached192.168.2.102 took too long to respond.
Try:

Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT doesn't mean that the browser is blocking the connection. It sounds more like it tried but failed to reach the device.

First I would try whether you can reach the URL within your device. If not, it means that the http server was killed by Android power saving functions. To do this, click on the share button (3 connected dots in triangle form) and then copy the URL. Then switch to your favorite Android browser and paste the URL.

If this was able to connect, you should check your router whether it forbids connections between clients. Some routers have this feature called "client isolation", which allows clients to access the internet, but not each other.

Yes the phone can connect to the URL. Do you know the word for client isolation in German? (I think TC is from Switzerland or Germany?) My router manual is in German and I can't find one in Engish online even though the router interface (via browser) lets you choose English or German. I can't find anything called client isolation in the settings so I want to search in the German manual. I speak German. It's a Telekom Speedport 724 V.

The Speedport routers don't seem to have client isolation, according to this thread

On the Fritzbox it's called "Aktive WLAN-Geräte dürfen untereinander kommunizieren" and it can be found in WLAN - Sicherheit - Verschlüsselung.
