Cannot connect to ftp when password contains Czech characters

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Cannot connect to ftp when password contains Czech characters

Post by *jbcb »

I set a password on my webhosting that contained the characters of the Czech alphabet (ěé). I successfully logged in to the ftp account in Windows Explorer and WinSCP. The problem occurred with Total Commander, which reported a '530 Incorect login' error.

When I changed the ftp password on the webhosting to contain only basic ASCII characters, Total Commander successfully connected to the ftp using the new password.

Please manually set the encoding for the connection. Why? If you set it to "auto", TC asks the server whether it supports UTF-8. But that command can only be sent _after_ logging in, so it doesn't apply to the password. So if your server expects UTF-8 for the password, you have to set UTF-8 as the encoding.
