[TC 11.00b2] improper maintenance of a new "Freq.UsedDirs" list

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 11.00b2] improper maintenance of a new "Freq.UsedDirs" list

Post by *AntonyD »

I have set
ShowFrequentlyUsed=0
FrequentlyUsedLen=0
and now at the next opening for control of the file tcDirFrq.txt (which suddenly does exist!) - instead of emptiness,
because I forbade any records to be created there - I see more than 30 such records........
This new feature is starting to piss me off.
There must be a real option and available from the "GUI interface" of settings wizard, which simply disables the even the FACT of maintaining of such list!
And not as it is now - specify the wrong path or set 0 records for storage with DirUsageLocation (a complete violation of all the laws of logic when for a field pointing to a storage folder you can in principle specify just zero.... :cry: :?: ). These are all "Workarounds", and not a final solutions.

P.S. Yes, looks like Totals is constantly internally updates this list (silently and imperceptibly for the user) and upon the TC exit - re-saves this file on a disk! Despite the fact that I forbade the program to keep this story at all! By Specifying 0 entries!
Yes, the very fact of this save is the result of fixing one bug that was submitted earlier... BUT! that bug concerns the situation when the user ALLOWED to maintain this list! Then, of course, when TC exits, if the necessary checkboxes are checked, this list must be saved. But this is not my case! I COMPLETELY forbid the maintenance of this list! Those: and inside in the program code it does not need to be maintained, and when saving histories, it does not need to be saved!!!
The roots of this problem still lie in the plane of having separate GUI options for these histories - because there is only ONE gui 'option'/checkbox for saving history of dirs - and for the regular visited folders so and for Freq.UsedDirs. Which are both being saved in the TWO SEPARATE files :lol: .
Which is a bad design of course.

It's simple:
  1. wincmd.ini [Configuration] DirUsageLocation=0
  2. Restart TC
  3. Alt+Down no longer displays "FrequentlyUsed" entries!
  4. tcDirFrq.txt has not been deleted [and would still be available for later use if a different decision is made]
  5. Delete the file "tcDirFrq.txt" if you are sure that you have no use for it
...then maybe you'll have some peace.

And most importantly, don't forget that all of this was done ONLY by manually editing in the INI-file and for an illogical field (which holds PATH!!! not numbers!).
But yes, it will work. A workaround - what can you take from it?

Well, first of all, there is a new function that, on closer inspection, offers some significant advantages.
For me, this means that a lot of TC users will probably want to make use of these advantages.

Those users who are not comfortable with the new function have the option of a single .ini setting,
which currently has to be done manually, to disable this function.

I don't see this as dramatic, because there are many programmes in which settings are made after a programme update
in order to to implement one's personal preferences.

ShowFrequentlyUsed=0
Seems not documented in Help yet.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

In addition to what tuska said.
We are in a beta phase of TC and anyone can comment and make wishes,
but some postings look like there were big serious problems
only because the history and forum posts where not read or understood.
Its time to cool down :)

The meaning of these options has changed, so this bug report is obsolete.
