When you configure your colors in total commander, when you start, the column number appears under the arrows.
After selecting a column, the pictures of the column numbers disappear.
Example in the picture.

Thos little numbers are not the column number, they are indicating second, third, etc. additional sorting.

From the Help:
Help wrote:Tabstop header

The tabstop header allows sorting of the file list by name, extension, size, and date by clicking on the appropriate header. Clicking a second time on the same header reverses the order. A small arrow to the left of the header text shows the sort direction. When you Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click on a header, it is defined as an additional sort order. If the first column results in equal items, the second column will be used, then the third etc. When you click on a header which is already used for sorting, the result depends on the modifier key: With Shift, the sort order of that header is removed. With Ctrl, the sort direction is reversed.
Example: Click on Size, then Shift+Click on Date. Files will be sorted by size, and those with equal size will be sorted by date.

Then why do they appear at startup TC? And after changing the sorting they disappear?

Then why do they appear at startup TC
Because you have either set up TC's options in "Operation" to save "Panels (brief/full etc,) on exit" - or you have used the "Configuration" -> "Save Settings" options in the Menu, once when you had those sorting settings enabled.

Thanks! Removed the setting from: Configuration - View Mode - Additional sort orders.
