windows build 26010: GSOD and reboot on right clicking a file

Post by *masterninja2 »

After updating windows to the latest build 26010 and right clicking on a file in the panes to get a context menu - I get the GSOD and the system rebootes of course.
I don't know if it's a error on my behalf or it's a windows build error or it's a total commander error or a combination of any.
But it's happen everytime on all kinds of files also after a re-installation of total commander.

Can anuone help or confirm the error - Is it me & my system or is it mr. Ghisler who must find a solution

You are using an Insider build, that's the risk.
Try to find the defect context menu handler using ShellExView from NirSoft.

Yes I know, but I have been with Insider builds since the start - and I'm trying to find out if is the insider build or my system that's messing up things
So I'm only asking to se if others sees the the same as I do and since I discovered it in total commander, I ask on this board - to hear what others might help with, if anything.
Thanks for the hint with ShellExView, but I don't seem to find any defect context menu handler.

But what's the name of the context menu handler used in the total commander's view panels when it comes to the files ?

TC has none, it's done intern.
The context menu handlers are not from TC, they come from all installed handlers and build a chain.

It's easy to find the culprit using ShellExView.
Normally, you can ignore the Microsoft entries and start disabling others one by one.
Make an Explorer Restart after such changes.

Are you using Total Commander 32-bit or 64-bit? They will see completely different context menu handlers.

Please also check whether you get the crash in Explorer after switching to classic context menu as described here:

I'm using the 64 bit of total commander
I still get the crash after switching to the old/classic context menu as described

It's strange whenever i rigth click on a file or folder whether it is in total commander, file explorer or on the desktop I get a crash

As I said, it's not a TC problem.
Have you tried the ShellExView as suggested ?

Yes I tried it and to no availBut I found the solution, I think, BSOD shows a reason to why the system crashes - in this case to stop code were: page fault in none paged area. Which I then seached on the internet a solution to and some info showed up which made me avare that a faulty driver can be the culprit and I remerbered that when I updated the windows build from, 26002 to 26010 also updated total commander from 11.02 beta to 11.02 final also updated a program which indeed uses drivers. So I un-installed the program, restarted the explorer and now contaxt menus works agin without crashing the system.

Thanks to you and mr. Ghisler for all the help, it's nice to get input and help in such situations
